MK5 Jetta 2.5L oil change - perfect fit
This socket saved my bacon. 4 days ago, I started to change the oil on my wife's MK5 Jetta 2.5L. Previously, I had had the oil changed at one of those chain oil change places and they must have had a gorilla tighten the oil filter canister!I visited four different auto stores that night and the next day trying different cap wrenches and other oil filter removal tools (strap wrench, those aggressive slip pliers with jaws, etc.). Nothing worked. The 74/76 15F cap wrench just slipped because it had too many flanges. The plastic 75mm 14F cap wrench from O'Reilley's almost broke before I gave up on it. The 75mm 14F OEM cap wrench from Auto Zone slipped; I guess that 0.5mm was just too much extra space. I did not want to wait for shipping, but I was left with no other option. I was also sad about spending almost twenty for a specialty tool compared to six for the generic cap wrenches locally. Most of the options I tried were noted in a thread on the VW Vortex forums that other users had success with and I think they would have been fine if the previous oil change had not left the canister on so tightly.Yesterday after work, this was waiting on my front porch, so I got my breaker bar from the garage, slid under the car, lined up the cap wrench and gave it a smack to seat it, then popped the breaker bar into the socket slot. I put a bit of force on the bar and the filter housing started turning! I finished the oil change and happily noted that the amount I saved on this oil change, even using a better filter and better synthetic oil than I would have gotten at the local chain had enough of a price differential that the tool was essentially free in comparison and I will have it for next time.

Much easier to use and to tourqe properly
2013 VW Passat, 2.5L. 100% worth it. I change my oil and oil filter every 4k miles, this makes it ever more easy to do.

Perfect for Mk6 VW Golf 2.5
It does a great job gripping and removing the oil filter canister. The strange size gives it a snug fit, so you may need to tap on it to remove it from the canister after unscrewing or reinstalling it. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to get my filter off without this. The nut at the top of the tool accepts a 22mm socket or wrench, FYI

It fits 2013 VW 2.5 (Passat)
I have two 2013 VW Passat's with the 2.5L engine, this wrench/socket fits both just fine. This is an important tool to have in your garage if you are doing oil changes on these cars -- strap wrenches don't really get a good enough bite on the plastic filter housing to get it off, and it's kind of an odd-ball size that I couldn't find at the local auto chains.I insisted on getting this after the first time I changed the oil in the car, I was forced to use a pair of channel-locks to get it off as a strap-wrench did not get a good grip and I couldn't source a socket like this one locally in the right size. Using channel-locks is HIGHLY warned against since the housing is plastic and easy to damage if you exert too much/unequal force. This is the right tool to use for the job.

Gets the job done, a must for changing your own oil.
This is the correct size filter wrench for a VW 2.5L CBUA or CBTA motor. If you want to change your own oil and you have a VW with one of those motors (golf, jetta, passat, beetle, etc.), you need this wrench or some equivalent to get at the oil filter cartridge. This wrench is nice solid metal, and should have no problem outlasting a fleet of cars.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 though, because it has a tendency to bind to the filter housing when I use it. You can wiggle it off using a wrench extension that you used to tighten/loosen the housing with it, but it is unnerving to have that happen the first time you're using it.

Works on 2009 VW Rabbit (2.5L).
Use this for changing the oil filter to my son's 2009 VW Rabbit (2.5L). This nifty tool used to unscrew the cartridge itself. Easy to use too. My only comment is that it has jammed itself onto the cartridge at times where it seems like you'll never get it off. But with a little coaxing, it unloosens and frees itself from the cartridge. Still, very well made and makes removing the oil filter cartridge a breeze!

Quality Tool
Worked perfectly on my 2008 2.5L Jetta. It was able to grip the housing without slipping, allowing me to remove the over-torqued housing with ease. I ordered this after unsuccessfully trying a strap wrench, a generic cap wrench, and a pair of filter pliers. The version I received looks like the stock picture, except there's an additional stamping on the top that says, "MADE IN USA". Apparently the item description indicating the country of origin as being "Taiwan" is incorrect.
