If your having problems, odds are it's the ethernet cable!
I was initially disappointed that these adapters didn't work. I couldn't believe that the seller would make a product that simply does not work. I assumed that the problem was with my device or the resolution settings. But having worked with computers for 30 years, I've seen my share of quarks with connector cables regardless of the protocol (SCSI, VGA, USB, CatX, etc.).So I decided to pull out my mix of old cables and see if the issue was with the cable. Sure enough, it was.I tried 4 cables before finding one that works beautifully. The cable that works for me is a Leviton Telcom Enhanced cable verified to TIA / EIA 568-B.2 CAT 5. The adapter actually specifies using a CAT 5e cable.ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:I'm not affiliated with any company. I've made this post for 2 reasons.1. To help customers who looking for an accurate informational review.2. The product is so inexpensive and works so well.A number of reviews say that this product doesn't work. IT DOES AND IT WORKS REALLY WELL -- just as advertised. I am using it for a security camera system. It DOES NOT need external power as some reviewers state. The picture quality is equivalent to an HDMI cable. As I've noted, if you have problems, it's the cable. I've used this product with a Dell PC monitor and a large flat screen Vizio TV.It's currently being used on a 30 foot run using cheapo Amazon CAT 6 cable wired to a cheapo Amazon RJ45 wall outlet connected via the Leviton cable I mentioned above. Note that it did not work with the "A" wire mapping connection on the RJ45 wall adapter. But it does works great with the "B" wire mapping. But that really is an issue with the RJ45 wall adapter. See the photo I've uploaded.Prior to this project, I was not sure of the difference between CAT 5, 5e and 6. It deals with bandwidth, shielding & standards verification. Google it for your own info. Also make a note to yourself that the product reviews on the internet are only as informed as the person writing the review. From my experience, many bad reviews are written by people who are not well informed.

MUST USE STANDARD 568B cable configuration
Works when using correct cable configuration. Due to twisted pair shielding, you MUST use the standard 568B configuration not just any straight-through set-up.I switched from a VGA monitor to an HDMI monitor and used the Cat6e cable already in the wall. However, when I made the cable, I used a modified straight-through configuration and I did not have the 3 and 5 (green/white and blue/white) switched, and it did not work. Since twisted pair configuration utilizes cable shielding within the 4 twisted pairs to impact how signals flow, I made a cable with the standard 568B configuration, which switches the 3 and 5 on each end, and is a straight-through design, and it worked great. Since my cable was already in the wall, I reconfigured the layout in new RJ45 connectors and it works great. If the adapters are not working for you, confirm cable configuration.

DOES NOT WORK/BUYER BEWARE
Finally Connected this after ordering and receiving a couple of months ago (***Note to self-try items before 30 day return is up) ….at any rate, finally tried connecting this and it did not work! Upon coming back and reading reviews, I decided to try multiple cables and none worked. Finally gave up and looked on the box where it says it’s compatible with windows 7 & 8, I’m trying to connect windows 10. Should that be an issue? I don’t see anywhere on item description/requirements where it says it won’t work with windows 10. Wasn’t aware this might be an issue prior to buying, if that’s the case then it should say so on the site. Also they might want to mention the cables issue if that’s a problem as well as many have complained on here

Easy to use - not very sturdy
Works fine for short distance - adapter did come apart first time using and had to tape it together.

Amazing Simple Product
I purposely ran the length of the cat6 cable out to the maximum recommended length to test how this product would perform. Let's just say after reading a lot of very bad reviews. I've come to the conclusion that either I got a different version of this product or those people have no idea how to use this product. For the actual use I made a 40' cat6 TIA568b cable as described by the directions in the box and in the description provided by the Amazon website. For reference I used SouthWire Cat6 riser bulk cable with crimp on plug heads made by Central Electric for Cat6.Lastly make sure that when you connect the Cat6 to the HDMI plug that you are connecting the TX plug on the side from which you will be sending video from. On the other end of the Cat6 you install the RX plug where you will be connecting to the output display device. In my case I have the RX side connected to a Viewsonic Projector with the transmission side connected to my Onkyo HDMI receiver. This way I can split the inputs on the HDMI devices (Roku, cable box, Blu-ray Player, Laptop) out to my projector and TV. This simple HDMI to Cat6 plug set is allowing me to have a small cable(1/4") to transmit video versus the standard HDMI cable(1/2") running across my living room ceiling.

Avoid at all costs would be my advice.
My experience is that this is complete and utter rubbish. Set it up and it was as dead as a dodo. I wish I had believed most of the reviews. The only good part was that Amazon arranged a return and a prompt refund - well done, Amazon.
