We believe the results are very accurate
The entire process was very easy. Our dog was a rescue with unknown origins and dates. Having a DNA test to confirm the Vet's age estimate matched very well. We are now using Embark's date as her birthday.

Inaccurate Results & Poor Customer Service – Not Worth the Money
I purchased this test expecting at least a reasonable estimate of my dog’s age, but the results were completely inaccurate—off by at least 1.5 years from his actual age. When I reached out to the company to address this, I was met with dismissive customer service that essentially told me I was wrong and that they wouldn’t do anything to resolve it.For context: I adopted my dog in October 2015, and at that time, the rescue agency estimated him to be at least one year old. That means in February 2025, he is a minimum of 10.5 years old, but more likely closer to 11. Yet, this test claimed he was only 8 years and 9 months old—which would mean he was somehow born after I adopted him. This isn’t just a minor discrepancy; it’s a massive miscalculation that calls into question the validity of their entire testing process. The company claims the test is 77% accurate within a year, yet my results fell into the 23% that are inaccurate—and by a significant margin. If a husky’s average lifespan is about 13 years, this test miscalculated over 11% of his life, which is completely unacceptable for a product that claims to be “scientifically sound.”I was never expecting perfection, but for the price, I expected some level of reliability. Instead, I got wildly incorrect results and a company that refuses to stand behind its product when questioned. If this company is content with providing nearly a quarter of their paying customers with inaccurate results and offering no resolution when challenged, then their claim of “customer satisfaction” is meaningless. If you’re considering this test—don’t waste your money. The results are unreliable, and the company has made it clear they have no interest in addressing concerns when their accuracy is challenged.

Results given were 6m off birthday
I adopted a dog whose birthday was given to me by the shelter 12/4/2020. The vet agreed she was 4. Curious if she really was 4 we tested her with embarks age test. We got the results which also estimated she was 4. They gave an estimated birthday 6m from birthday given from shelter. It was such a relief to have confirmation from all three places that she is in fact 4.I did see the negative reviews, but did the test anyway because I knew the results would give me a range. Which if you have a rescue with no idea the age it’s super helpful to narrow it down with in a year. I found this test to be accurate and within 6m of her actual reported Birthday.I also did the breed test through embark and that came back 100 border collie which she looks 100 border collie so those results seemed accurate as well.

Love Embark tests, this one is no exception!
Why did you pick this product vs others?:Arrived quickly and got results in about a month! I’ve age tested five dogs so far (one with a known exact birthdate) and it was accurate within two months!

Seems accurate
I adopted a dog that the shelter estimated should be 6 years old right now, but I have always suspected that he is younger based on behavior and other clues. This age test estimates that he is 3 1/2 years old, which seems very accurate and is close to what I would have guessed. There is no way to know for sure, but I am happy with the results. The only downside is that the kit is pricey. There is also a fairly wide margin of error, so it is important to have realistic expectations, but I feel confident that the results are accurate within 6 months in my case.

Too Expensive For The Technology Used
We rescued a Border Collie from our local shelter. He had been surrendered by the owner with the information he was 4 years old. We took him to the vet for his initial checkup. The vet examined the dog's muscle tone in his rear legs, eyes, and teeth. The vet told us the dog was likely not yet 4, but closer to 3 years old.We got the Embark test because of YouTube videos saying it was the most accurate. The test results came back as 8 years- 7 months. We were horrified that our dog could be close to 9 years old with a breed that has an expectancy of 11 years.I disagreed with their findings and contacted their customer service. They responded with a boilerplate form explaining their technology. They give a 77% chance that a birthdate will be given somewhere in a 24-month range, in addition to the 23% (almost a quarter) error range. You may as well throw darts at a paper with dates on it. Their "technology" is nowhere near where it needs to be for the money they charge. They must have a database of DNA to compare their finding to, and that database is not nearly large enough at this time for any accuracy. Maybe, in another 10 years with increased technology and expanded databases, they will be more accurate.Do not waste well over $100 on this voodoo science.

Great
Loved this and the age was right on spot with what my vet said. I was told by the rescue vet my dog was 1 1/2 years old. My vet said she thought he was a few month younger than that estimate. We received an age of 1 year and 3 months!! I love knowing his approximate birthdate and would definitely do this for future pets.
