Q: Can you play these on a record player?

Stephanie these aren't vinyl record, they are cd's that has a decorative sticker on top that looks & feels like a vinyl record. These only can be played in any device that plays cd's.

Q: How do you burn CDs at a lower speed? (as recommended in these reviews) I have an old Mac and I guess I must use automatic settings.

It depends on the software you use. Most recommend max speed but will allow you to burn at lower speeds. I would suggest that you go with max speed due lower speed doesn't offer any significant improvement.

Q: Can i burn music from my macbook pro onto these and will i be able to play them in my car - a subaru 2014 crosstrek?

Verbatim is my go to brand for blank discs (you won't have trouble with failed discs). The main trick to burning music CDs that will play in any CD player is make sure that your burning software has the correct options selected. While you can burn data CDs and fill them with hundreds of MP3s these disks will only play in disc players that are designed to handle MP3 discs. Otherwise make sure your software is set to "music" or "audio." You can tell if the software is set wrong when 80 minutes worth of songs are not showing the disc is full. Another thing to pay attention to is to make sure the disc is finalized. Discs can be burned in a way that lets you add on songs later. These discs won't play in standard players.

Q: Can I record music on a stand alone recorder or these CD's are to be used to record on a computer?

A stand alone cd recorder(in a stereo system) can only use a cd-r that says music cd-r (or audio cd-r) plainly showing on the label. If the blank cd-r you're trying to buy says data on it, that will work in a computer for data/photos/ and yes music,too, but it won't RECORD in the old stand alone cd recorders used in stereo systems. And if you record music to a DATA cd-r with your computer...it will usually PLAY in a stand alone cd recorder....again, it is the RECORDING that is the issue with the stereo component cd recorders (and the music cd-rs needed for them will cost a little more).
