The waters, about 40 miles out to sea from the Mouth of the Columbia River, team with Albacore tuna from July through September. The tuna from this MSC Certified, sustainable fishery are famed for light and healthy flavor. These waters are a key fishery for the Pacific Northwest providing employment for thousands of American fisherman. Our tuna is wild caught with dolphin safe fishing methods. Ekone, one of the largest, independent Seafood companies in Southwest Washington smokes and cans the Albacore tuna fish with a slice of lemon. Small batches are hand packed with no added oil or water allowing the natural flavor of the fish to be highlighted. We believe this premium product tastes better than any other canned tuna imaginable. Simply stated there is no other product on the market like this today. What is Albacore tuna? Tuna varieties include: the bluefin, yellowfin, skipjack, bigeye, bonito, blackfin, and the albacore. Albacore tuna are open-sea hunters, whose main source of food is cephalopods (squid). They dive over 400 meters underwater when searching for food. Bigeye and yellowfin tuna primarily eat fish. Albacore is the only tuna among the seven types that is hailed as having the truest white meat. Albacore contains more omega 3 fatty acids than other types of Tuna. The FDA recently reported that albacore has lower mercury levels than other tuna products. Adding fillers like soy, water and vegetable broth may degrade the full taste of the albacore. What is the MSC? The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.
