Informative but slightly dated
Informative little book and has a map included - some of the restaurants no longer exist (book was written in 2017) so it's a little dated, however, the information regarding the main sights is good, as are the walking routes and also the little tips that are added. Still worth getting even if it is a few years older.

all you need istanbul in your pocket
you often dont want to look like a tiurist pulling your huge guide book out and this great little book certainly helps there. it is perfect to take on short breaks, easy to stash away and gives you a good run down of the must see sight plus local tips and information. the pull out map is also great.

Functional Guide
A good enough guide to point out the highlights of Istanbul. Compact, easy to carry around. In desperate need of updating in some areas though, especially with regards to prices. Sure, prices are always going to change, so there will always be inaccuracies, but some things here were so massively off that they clearly haven't been updated for a very long time, way longer than the date of this edition would suggest.

Well in need of an update
It's often said that by the time a Lonely Planet guide is published, it is already out of date. This particular guidebook is now so out of date as to be almost useless and I wonder how accurate it was in the first place. Some very basic information is incorrect and from speaking to people in Istanbul, was untrue even at publication. The prices are a long way off the mark, due to inflation, and understandable changes. Service is now almost always included. The Museum Pass never included the Aya Sofia. These are just some of the traps we fell into because of this guide. Things change and it is important to be aware of these changes. There is a lot of cultural insensitivity amongst tourists in Istanbul and I wonder how much of that is because of the slap dash approach to respecting local cultural norms presented in guides such as these. As always, the best drinking, eating and shopping is not in the guide and that is a great thing, it makes discovering it for yourself an achiecement. Usually Lonely Planet is a phenomenally useful primer to a city, but in this case it was little more than a few useful maps.

A great little guide!
Helpful and informative like all Lonely Planet guides. It allowed us to discover a beautiful spot we wouldn't have found otherwise (Rumeli Hisari fortress). Recommended!
