Just Get it
I have an older sony a7iii. With all of the cameras coming out, I bought (almost) into the hype of getting a newer model. After extensive testing, I have come to the realization, the issue with my photos, despite years of practice, was my lens. I was using what i thought to be the sharpest i could get for its class (Sigma 24-70). Of course I heard primes are sharper, but I also heard a japanese lens would be superior to a third-party lens. especially a chinese one. I was on the fence about this lens, despite the hype. As you know the majority of youtubers that recommend products have products sent to them for free, despite not being paid for the review. They always say, "my opinions are my own' but its obvious they are going to review the pproduct favorably, to get more free stuff. So its all bullshit. Concerning this lens, i gave it a shot, since it is free returns with prime. I must say, I was blown away. The sharpness is unquestionable. I'm sure , maybe, possibly the sigma 85mm could take sharper pictures but I would spend 3x more money for a lens much much heavier. The sigma is 1200 bucks this one is 400. The photo i attached here was taken at 1.8 wide open. I have taken this photo also with the sony, and let me tell you it does not compare. I take pixel peeping on a whole other level. I am EXTREMELY perfectionist. I've got a real problem. As someone who is very anti-Chinese made products having been fuked over one too many times, I must say whatever they did here with this lens, they did it right. So much so, that I am going to be buying their 20mm, also made by Viltrox. concerning the few negative reviews, I saw some people had the aperature blades lock up on them. Honestly, with as seldom as these are reported, I am willing to take my chances--That is how impressive this lens is. This lens has accomplished three things for me: 1)saved me from buying a new camera for nothing 2)made me fall in love with my camera and photography on a whole other level 3)provided not only an affordable but very compact way to utilize the most versatile focal length. This 85mm paired with a super compact 20mm (voltrox) provides the 2 best focal lengths you can ask for; landscape and portrait.

Great lens for the price and sharp!
Great lens! I’ve used it to take a couple portraits of my family and they came out superb! My only negative is that the lens hood doesn’t not lock in place properly when it’s not in use.

Good budget 85mm
This lens was purchased to shoot a wedding. The auto focus is slightly slow, but the images captured using it are crisp and defined. A good budget lens for sure

Quite Pleased with this Viltrox 85mm lens.
I bought this lens for portraits, but I did a couple of practice shots today and am very happy with it. It will be perfect for portraits, but I will need to stand back a bit because of the shallow depth of field. If you need a low-cost alternative, I can't imagine anything better. I would compare the quality to my Karl Zeiss lens. It's amazing. The last picture of the guy has been cropped to show the quality of the image. This was a full body shot, and I cropped out just part of the face to show how amazing this lens is. I can't imagine a better lens, especially for the money. Truely Amazing.

Worked great till it did not! A7II
Stopped connecting to my camera after 40 photos of casually testing it in my backyard. Using Sony A7II.Photos looked great, shame it stopped connecting.

Build quality
I first ordered the Samyang 75mm lens before getting the Viltrox 85mm lens. The 75mm was a new focal length for me, but it impressed me with its versatility. However, I found the lens quality to be lacking compared to the Viltrox, so I decided to purchase the 85mm. I’m very satisfied with it and have no plans to return it.
