Kissin Plays Liszt

Liszt and Kissin, an earth-shattering combination
The highlight of this album (at least for me) are the Transcendental and Concert Etudes. Kissin's mastery over these pieces is unbelievable and the soundscapes he is able to conjure are all thanks to his unparalleled technique. The precision and lightness of No. 5, the almost inhumane violent hunt of No. 8, the peace and granduer of No. 11, and the tragic, hopeless cold of No. 12. All these are elevated by Kissin's creativity and technique.Kissin also handles the other works with great enthusiasm which gives us a really rich supplement to the Etudes.Truly, this is Kissin at his finest!

a match made in heaven
Liszt , the great virtuoso, both as pianist and composer -- as interpreted by Evgeny Kissin, one of few whose inspiration and technique are perhaps a match for Liszt's own. If you like Kissin's work (I do), this is well worth considering.

Sublime
This is a wonderful collection of Liszt work. Kissin is remarkable and truly validates his reputation as one of the finest contemporary classical pianists. His performance of the Etudes is particularly noteworthy.

Performances vary.
This CD is a combination of "live" and studio recordings. Even Kissin is best in the studio where retakes are possible. In concert his fingering gets the best of him and he tends to slur passages while playing too loud. The selections from his Carnegie Hall debut in 1990 are excellent as was his playing throughout that event where he exhibited great understanding and feeling for the compositions.

Powerful!
Evgeny Kissin is a powerful performer and artist. I have never enjoyed Liszt more and plan to explore more of Kissin's works.

Good content, but not a new release
This particular release coincided with the Liszt year in 2011. This is not an actual new recording, but a collection of previously released recordings from the 80s onwards. If this was made clear on Amazon it would have been better.I would have liked to hear him play other Liszt pieces in his repertoire but not in this collection or previously recorded, such as La Campanella.

Großer Suchtfaktor
Kissin ist der wichtigste Pianist unserer Zeit, und auf du und du mit Liszt. Die Etueden sind grandios (qusi Berman-Niveau), gefallen mir noch deutlich besser als seine h-moll Sonate.
