Dear Ian, Unfortunately there is currently an issue with Amazon that they have put 'Japanese Quartz' in the description of many battery operated watches that are being sold through their site (Amazon provides the descriptions of the items and does not provide accurate information in some cases). It is a long standing issue that we have constantly been in contact with Amazon to resolve. Unfortunately, while Amazon is very aware of the issue, they have so far not been able to address the issue and remove that from the items' descriptions. This item does indeed have the original Breitling Swiss Quartz movement. We have been in business for almost 40 years and operating solely online since 2001. We are among the largest online retailers of watches, jewelry and accessories in the world. In the thousands of orders we’ve processed over several decades, all items have been 100% authentic. All items we sell originate from manufacturers of the brand, which is how we ensure authenticity. Furthermore, we would lose our selling privileges on this website if the items we are selling are not 100% authentic. However, we are still processing thousands of orders every year.
