Q: Once this is assembled & attached to vehicle what are dimensions of closed position (carry/cover dimensions)?? Does it remain attached to vehicle?

It is 82" long , 5" high and 4" wide closed on the vehicle. I have mine on a lifted 02 Grand Cherokee mounted to my roof rack even at speeds of 70-80mph it's fine and no wind noise. It is permanently mounted on my rack

The rail for these type awnings (ARB, SmittyBilt, Yescom are all the same) capture 1/4" x 20 bolt-heads in a slot. What this means is you need access to the threaded portion of the bolt to affix a nut. If you cannot thru-bolt through the side of the shed, get a length of aluminum or steel C-Channel and attach that to shed, then drill holes for the 1/4"x20 bolts.
