Ibn Taymiyyah views on Ali, Fatima and Husayn
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, held these views about the ahl al-Bayt, i.e. with respect to Ali, Fatima and Husayn, which are all taken from this textOpposing the Imam: The Legacy of the Nawasib in Islamic Literature (Cambridge Studies in Islamic Civilization)by Nebil Husayn (Author)Ali was not an imamto whom obediencewas obligatory, because his authority as caliphwas established neither throughan official appointment nor through consensus....Al-Husayn wasrightly killedbecause he wished todestroy the unity of the community.Furthermore, the army that killed al-Husaynwas obeying the Prophet, who ordered his followersto kill anyone who causesdissensionafter the authorityof a ruler has been established....That which is narrated about Fat˙ima claiming to have received Fadak as a gift, having individuals testify for her, or asking in a final will to be buried at night and to have none of them (Abu Bakr and his supporters) pray for her does not befit her (and is probably false). If it is true,it is considered a sinfor which she shall be forgivenrather than a praiseworthy deed.
