It is well made and well decorated. When closed it takes up very little space as it is not as deep as the older wooden style bureau but there is still plenty room when open to write. Only slight point when open it does not have a pad on the writing area so I think this could be easily scratched. But overall I am happy with this item and my small point about a pad does not take any pleasure away from the item.

I wasn't quite sure about it when I first unwrapped, but now I'm pleased with it as it's just the right size for my flat. As others have noted, it's not hand-painted onto the wood, but looks like it's painted onto strips of veneer or paper (possibly using a stencil) which has been laquered over - still a beautiful effect though. The internal letter rack is seperate but just slides into the back of the bureau.One thing to bear in mind is that if it comes direct from China, as mine did, it will be delivered on a wooden pallet which you will then have to dispose of yourself as Palletways, the delivery company, can't take it back, and the driver will leave it for you to unpack and carry the bureau indoors.

Stunning piece of furniture, fits perfectly where I wanted it and lights up the space. Very well made decorative writing bureau beautifully finished off with lovely paintings of cranes and trees and sun. It certainly adds a lot of ambience to a room. Not large, not too small either just the right size for the intended purpose. It has four partitions inside for keeping different items.Worth every penny spent.

Got this for a Christmas gift for my wife. Love it so much we bought the matching coffee table.Both pieces look stunning in our living room.

Wanting to replace a seriously worn-out bureau I looked around for a new replacement and couldn't find anything that wasn't boring/tatty/over-priced so decided to take a chance buying Chinese laquer writing-desk online.I thought it might look garish, or cheap or something but it really doesn't.It needed a bit of wax polish on the drawer-bottoms to make them run smoothly, but apart from that it's just great. And it came as an item of furniture NOT all in bits in a flat-pack!One tip:- If you order one do keep on top of the delivery-company. I'm very pleased with my desk but getting it here was a headache

A slightly mixed bag. Not the work of a master craftsman for sure but overall very nice. Fit of dropdown desk is a bit gappy when closed, draw handles are are a bit cheap and nasty and I suspect the patterns are printed and not entirely even. However, the gold leaf is beautiful, the pictures are simple but elegant and the drawers are felt lined (though oddly, the desk top isn't). Feet have no adjustment so to counter my uneven floor edges I stuck on some floor protectors which cost peanuts from Wilko. Seems like good value at the price. China Warehouse phoned me to arrange a delivery day, so 4 stars all around. One gripe though is their delivery firm, Palletways. Driver dumped the unit in the street outside my door and said 'That's my job done!' Left me to struggle it in by myself, so be warned!

I love it and this vendor was a pleasure to deal with.100% it's solid hard wood not ply, the detail in the paint work is not amazing but it is of a high quality it's certainly value for money.I like to serve champagne from it, I've not as yet written any letters.

This was putchased as a gift and I am not disappointed. Originally I had looked for a carved bureau and wasn't too sure about the laquered one but I was mistaken- this is lovely.The importing company phoned to arrange a delivery day and on the day I had a 3 hour delivery slot. The packaging was robust and this arrived sooner than we'd hoped. The recipient is absolutely delighted with it. It's a very tasteful little bureau that fits well into any room.
