Provided the additional USB 3.0 ports without performance degradation.
I purchase this item for a laptop that only has 1 USB 3.0 port. I do allot of data transfers from my laptop to external HD's as back ups. I store mostly photos that I have edited and this device can in handy for the additional ports needed.I use USB 3.0 External HDs and I avg. a transfer rate of about 45-75MB/s (depending on the device I am using) and between 2 external HD transferring files ranging in 5MB to 30MB each file, the transfer rates are very reliable at 50MB/s on avg. and sometimes I see it spike sitting at 75-85MB/s if the device I am using is consistent. Transferring larger files will slow things down, but not by much. If I am transferring files from a powered (external powered) HD to another, I get better speeds that can be as fast as 95MB/s. However, from the experience I have had, the transfer rate will be determined by the device you are using but the USB Hub can handle whatever you throw at it.The USB cable is heavy duty and the housing is made of complete metal which feel much better than the cheaper plastic versions I have used in the past. You will need to use the AC Adapter plugged into the device, it may be a little inconvenience for those looking for portability, but I have this device stationed on my desk so this was a none issue for me.I also use this to charge my phone when I am sitting on my desk, does the job without hitch like it should.Overall the product performs as its advertise and the price isn't too bad either. You can get cheaper ones that are made of plastic, but the feel of this unit is much more sturdy.

Very nicely built hub
This hub is extremely well made, from a mechanical perspective. Having been a machinist & tool designer for 20 some years, I can honestly say that this is how I would build a hub. It is constructed from extruded aluminum with punched holes for the ports. The finish is sort of a semi-matte black (a bit glossier than a true matte black) with a textured finish. I cannot speak for the quality of the electronics inside, nor the construction of the actual USB ports. I assume this hub contains low-cost Chinese built electronic components, housed in no less than a military-duty housing.I believe Mark's review of 2 stars was a bit harsh, and seems to reflect his understandable frustration of the overall purchase & return, and subsequent customer service directly from the company. I get that, I hate hassles like what he went through. But the hub the itself does not merit only 2 stars by any means. However, I do have a point of concern: the specs state that this hub will supply 900ma per port. That is great. But then why does it ship with a 2000ma (2a) power supply? 900 x 4 is 3600 where I went to school. I also am not an electronics wizard, so perhaps there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. Or not.Off the record, this is a 5-star hub. It is truly the nicest hub I have seen or used. On the record, I am giving 4 stars for this review. I have subtracted 1 star because the manufacturer is fully aware of a serious compatibility issue with this, yet they have still not updated the description to reflect this, despite having had ample time and additional verification that there is, in fact a problem. Apparently they would rather frustrate additional customers, so for the Mark's out there, they lose a star until I see that they have decided to show real customer support.

This is not a Toy!!
This USB hub is definitely an industrial strength tool!! I bought this to replace a Hub that simply stopped working with routine use after a couple of months. The old hub was made of plastic and on initial use the top and bottom halves broke apart. I super glued it and it worked great for a few months. Then for no reason it just quit. In contrast this Dyconn Hub is constructed like a brick (OUT)house. It is contained in a very, very heavy gauge solid aluminum case. You could stand on this thing and not dent it. The 7 ports are slightly recessed into the case which gives excellent stability to the cable inserted. The power switch is easily accessible. It appears to easily supply full USB 3.0 900 mA to each port. The one thing I miss from previous Hub is the 2 Power only ports for charging my IPad and phone. So far the Dyconn Hub has been absolutely flawless and recognizes everything I plug into it. It also does NOT have that weird quirk that messes with a USB 2.0 wireless mouse dongle, good work guys!! I have multiple USB 3.0 hard drives plugged in and transfer speeds are superb. Video file transfers that took about 8 minutes now average maybe 2-4 minutes max!! PROS: SOLID, FAST, RELIABLE, COMPATIBILITY. CONS: NO POWER ONLY PORTS.

Don't be misled
One would expect that an item with a name like "PowerHub," would maybe, I don't know, provide power to the ports in its hub. Well, it doesn't, (to most of them). I bought this as a mountable multiport charger, and only 2 of the 12 ports provide power. The other 10 are for data only. This isn't clearly stated in the description, and had it been, I would have passed. As it is, I feel like I should be able to give it less than one star since only 1 out 6 ports performed as expected.2 month update: I had been using this as a simple USB hub, but now it can't even do that. Despite the fact that the blue LED lights up when you turn it on, it has mysteriously stopped working as a USB hub altogether. If you are looking for a sturdy brick-shaped paperweight that provides absolutely no functionality or interaction with your computer whatsoever, THIS is the product for you!
