The squares on this net are way bigger than one inch. They are closer to 2 1/2 to 2 3/4".

No I would no use it for pool float storage. The material is not strong enough! I think if the material gets wet, it looses its strength & shape.

Can this be cut down to smaller size?

If you're trying to cut it a certain size forget it. Very cheaply made junk
