From the floor to the top of the table is approximately 2ft 6-1/8 in.

Q: I believe 2'10" is the height of the table top. I am asking for the distance of the bottom storage shelf from the floor.

You are correct. The distance to the bottom shelf is 9inches

Q: In "about this item" it states that this potting bench is 47"w but in "product dimensions it says 37wx21.5dx53h. is it 47"w or 37"w?

It's actually about 44". The 21.5 depth is correct. I think perhaps the 47 is the distance at the top rather than the distance of the legs at the bottom. This is a great bench by the way. Very well made.
