The difference is remarkable. I read about Downbeats in Noise Mag and they compared very favourably to more expensive products. So far I've used mine loads and have no complaints. In fact, the music sounds much better with these as there's a lot less noise and the music is far more defined. I seem to be able to appreciate and enjoy the gigs much more than than my fellow gig-goers who don't use noise filters, so guess they must be working. They are very hard to notice (apart from you the wearer, as they are translucent and if someone asks to look down your earhole) - so its a pretty 'stealthy' hearing protection option at gigs, music practice etc. 2. The quality is pretty good, it dampens the general sound down to a safer level (can't remember the exact dB) but it doesn't sacrifice the acoustics, drums, treble or bass etc - so in a nutshell its a great affordable and reusable solution for protecting your hearing at gigs without losing a ton or so of the actual live music.Example - I just got back from seeing Dag Nasty (who were amazing) playing in Glasgow and it was unreal. I had the Downbeats in, I almost forgot they were there as the sound was comfortably loud, yet clear. It does make it hard to converse with other people in between songs etc, but that's probably due to low freq. I also use them for drum practice/gig rehersals and they are great - again just have a harder time hearing when someone talks in a low tone (but at least they work)Summary: They're dead handy and they do the job well.
