This book is fabulous. So much information. Great guide to thousands of foods. Would reccomend this book to anyone that has CKD. Reasonably priced. Worth the money.

Excellent resource even with a few odd omissions
This book is a blessing for people on dialysis. Because it is normed to 100 grams for phosphorus, sodium and potassium, all you need is a flat kitchen scale that shows grams to weigh all foods as you eat them. If your portion weighs 50 grams, for example, and Dr. Maher's book says that particular food has 500 grams of phosphorus per 100 gram serving, then your portion has 250 grams of phosphorus. This allows you to keep an accurate record, and not have to depend on vague terms like "low, middle and high" as you try to match your diet to the requirements of dialysis.

Solely Food List
I thought this book would provide more information. It's a book that provides a list of hundreds of different types of food and their values as far as potassium phosphorus and sodium count. This is of some value, but the book does nothing more than give you a list. I was expecting the writer to employ some type of dialogue. If you're just looking for a list of foods and how much of something it has in it then this book is great. If you're looking for guidance of why something has more of phosphorus, sodium or potassium, this is not the book for you.

Would be OK in database form
This book has a lot of information but is worthless in print form. If they offered it as a database, it would be exceptional. Do not buy.

Difficult to use
This book does have much information that is helpfil to someone with CKD. However, the format is difficult to use. Instead of the information in a table format, it is in paragraph language. Some of the food items are listed weird. For example, Boiled potatoes is listed under the b and not the p. It is difficult to find some foods.A plus for the book is that it does list the phosphorus for the food. That nutrient is often not in other nutrient guides. This is important when you need to keep a lower Phosphorus level. All the foods have the listed portion as 100 grams. This is a weight not a volume. I use cup measures, so this is not helpful for me. In summary, this book is difficult to use, find items, and determine amounts. I think I will have to return it.
