Well written and very practical to have in your shirt pocket or your gig case. It explains in a very concise manner from all the different shades on nuances to most of the great composers. Even though you might think you know everything about music, you'll always find something new and taken by surprise by some information you didn't know. Well worth the prize.

I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this item because I wasn't too sure it would have the definition of the term I was looking for. But lo and behold, it was in there! I was so excited.I can't leave a five star review because I haven't read the whole book yet but so far, things look great. This is book is so handy for any musician to keep near their instrument, they can grab it if they need to on a whim.So, most likely the definition of the term you're looking for would be in this book.

It was a gift for a musical high school student. He seemed very happy to receive the book. I have a degree in choral music and just scanning through the entries it seemed to cover a lot for the high school student.

Plenty of information here. Well organized, but, being a pocket edition, it's, well, a pocket edition, and info is a bit cramped. Great for on the road.Would recommend, but would purchase a full-size format next time.

This little book is helpful and has lots of information. I have looked up a few musical terms which were not listed, such as L'istesso Tempo. Definitions are concise.

This dictionary is perfect for any music student who is learning an instrument or going to college hands down I must have!

As the title of this book suggests, this is a music dictionary that is diminutive in size enough that it can slip into a pocket or school bag with ease.This covers most entries you'd require as a new student of music and also includes sections on composers and names of compositions. It also had a timeline of composers (although this is a little hard to decipher in the small format). There are scale charts, as well as other useful charts.I am a drummer and some of the relevant info is bit lacking for percussive instruments, but for general music studies it is pretty good.I was a little surprised about some of the composer choices to include and leave out. For example Billy Joel is included, but Jimi Hendrix isn't in there at all. Some would say Hendrix is more influential musically and whilst a different genre, just as an important composer. Any selection will have omissions I guess, and this is a pocket reference.All in all I am very impressed with this book and instead of taking out my phone at odd moments or when queueing, I'll take this out instead and browse through it. A useful resource, although you may prefer a slightly more in-depth dictionary for when at home.
