This is a fantastic product with a great idea behind it. I love the fact that you can decorate the inside which will then light up through nothing but solar energy. You can certainly let your creativity run free with this one.The light is very warm and distributes nicely, rather than throwing a harsh, direct ray of light. It is easy to use and you can charge the solar panel using sunlight or a USB cable if you're unlucky with the weather. The handle allows you to hang the light up anywhere in your garden which is a great little feature; I hung it in the tree which made for a beautiful sight - might get a whole bunch of these to create my own fairy garden!Admittedly, it is a little pricey and the handle could've been made using better and stronger material, but knowing that the solar jar is handmade, was produced with ethical means and is supporting South Africans by creating jobs definitely makes up for this.Definitely recommended!

I really love this solar jar. It's beautiful to look at and really calming. The light it produces it really warm but not overpowering and perfect for evenings outside. It is simple but effective.I love that this product is fair and the energy is renewable.The jar is really simple to use with just aligning the dots and the magnetic mechanism means it stays in place so the light is continuous and the circuit does not break. It also does have the USB attachment if you were stuck for sunlight.The jar itself is really sturdy as is the metal handle, I just hope the electronics don't get damaged as I decorate it because they are exposed.

I was pleasantly surprised with this light. The jar itself is sturdy and attractive, the solar powered mechanism and how you turn it on and off is clever once you work it out, and the light is much brighter than I expected. So far, it's holding up well too!I would perhaps prefer some more clear instructions as to the USB connection inside and how to turn it on an open the jar. The circuitry inside is also exposed, which I think could do with being covered up somehow. Those are minor gripes though, for what is a really, really good and attractive lamp for the price.

Great product- works exactly as described. Bought after seeing friend's lantern in another country, and needed to contact Sonnenglas customer service with query- prompt, helpful reply. Brilliant to deal with, very impressed.

I do like this solar lamp; it's a very simple design that looks good in a minimalist setting in the house or garden. It can also be filled with an array of objects (stones; shells, coloured glass beads etc.) to match your decor if desired.The on/off mechanism is ingenious (a magnet flips over onto the lid, rather than a normal switch or button) and the electronics are small and neatly concealed under the lid. When unscrewing the lid, the 'works' do seem rather exposed and a little loose - time will tell if this is a problem - but the lid only needs to be removed regularly if you wish to charge the light using a USB connection.The light itself is quite bright; much brighter than similar lights I'd seen previously. It's a fairly neutral light, too, not too blue or too orange, just a warmish white. I don't think this is a light to take travelling (it's too bulky and possibly fragile) but for the garden or home, it's a nice object and useful source of illumination. It's also good to know that it is a Fair Trade product made in South Africa and benefiting local communities, although the instructions were provided - rather unhelpfully - in German.Would I recommend it? Well, not at the £26 it was previously listed at, but the current price of £17 (July 2017) it is probably fairly priced and I would recommend it as a gift for an eco-minded friend, or a treat for yourself.NB I received this product free of charge in return for completing a product testing questionnaire. This review is, however, my honest opinion of the product.

I absolutely love this solar jar!I actually didnt expect to like this product so much.I took it out to the park with friends this weekend and it gave the atmosphere a nice little warmth, and I had so many compliments.I can imagine it looking lovely at a dinner party too.The quality is second to none and the light lasts such a long time too!I love the handmade touch and story behind it. 10/10!!!

I actually like this light a lot more than originally anticipated. The jar itself is a really nice design and sturdy, the light is neutral and brighter than expected and easily charged with by USB, and the on/off switch is just ingeneous. I also like the fact that the inside can be filled with decorations, although I have not tried this as I expect it to take away too much of the light for my liking.

The Sonnenglas Solar Jar is one of the best purchases I've made in a while. Easy to do, fully-customisable (you can decorate the inside of the jar to look however you want it to, or leave it empty for a pretty subtle glow) and gorgeous to look at, this solar-powered garden light is a new addition to my garden and with little effort, creates a welcoming glow and a pleasant atmosphere for summer evenings. Would highly recommend buying this!
