Book Review "Music on the bamboo Radio" by Martin Booth
Masterfully written and very imformative in a beautiful lyric way.I read it in one go. Martin Booth's books are very special, as they depict a now vanished way of live in the Orient.

Has a certain charm
I lived in HK for 5 years in the 90's, so know the Territory quite well. This was a charming little read, probably written originally for early teens. However as an adult, must say I enjoyed it. Set during WW2 in HK, it is centred around a young English boy who is taken care of by his family's Chinese servants, dressing like a Chinese and learning Cantonese, to avoid arrest by the occupying Japanese Forces. It is beautifully told, and would recommend it to all ages, but will appeal more, at a guess, to those with a knowledge & appreciation of the East.

I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed this book very much. Booth had grown up in Hong Kong and knows what he is talking about. Everything in this novel sounds authentic. The characters are real flesh and blood and although the plot is not one of pageturning excitement there is a real authority to the story. It is well written. Booth's writing is never sentimental; always real and interesting and engaging. I highly recommend it.
