Great book. It is a little IR bible I wish I could gift President Trump if he actually took time to read.

I love these kind of books! Succinct and educational. This book tackles the not negligibly sized task of summing up the theory and history of global politics - and does it with great success! The read has an easy flow to it. Impartial, interesting. I learned a lot about the historical roots of the field of study that we today call international relations. It was a journey. The main schools of thought and their influence give a holistic view over the whys and hows of events. A good read.

The book achieves the opposite of its intended purpose. As someone who despises politicians and politics, I expected this book, based on its title, to present arguments that might foster some understanding of politicians. Instead, it begins with a weak argument comparing politicians to doctors, claiming that both make mistakes, and from there, it cascades into a torrent of half-truths. The book is, paradoxically, a political narrative, written from the perspective of someone who loves politics and only sees one side of the story. Consequently, it fails to persuade and is unlikely to change your mind. If you already disliked politics, this book will only intensify that sentiment.

I'm so happy I read this book! I would consider myself "politically literate" yet there was a lot of information here that were news. It's a good primer to those who want to see beyond national politics and expand their horizons to the whys and hows of global politics. The way the author structured the book - history and theory - made the message transparent and clear. There were lots of interesting nuggets that kept the read fluid and enjoyable.
