Q: I've used mine once, after soaking the tip, and they worked well. However when I refilled and used again the water drained very quickly. why?

The wick at the tip could have dried out and would need soaking again whenever you refill. The reason it drains quickly is because water has entered the centre tube; by soaking the wick in water first will activate the moisture sensor and prevent water entering the centre tube. Whenever you experience a quick release of water, do the following; 1) Unscrew the stake and shake out water from the centre tube. 2) Dip the wick in water to ensure it is moist. 3) Fill globe, screw stake on and use as normal. 4) Also ensure that the globe is not in direct sunlight or close to other source of heat.

Q: Can you use a large bottle for when you are on holiday?

These never worked for me, I tried for a few weeks but found them not suitable, use a plastic bottle, some string works better, you can find it on youtube , hopeyhis helps

If used outside the sun's heat will force all the water out faster compared to using indoors. You can test it outside in a shaded area and direct sunlight and compare how long the water lasts.
