A nice piece of kit
I should point out from the start that I am not an electrician. Recently I have had to buy quite a few cables and connectors, hence the reason why I tried this version of a USB to serial connector. In short it arrived well within the dates given despite coming from Garmany. The serial connector is actually see through, which is interesting because you can see how it is wired up. The main thing though for me was that it is really well made and feels like a quality product. It comes with software for Windows 7 but the disc is not plug and play. You have to follow the instructions that are in clear English and it works first time. Much to my relief I was able to select the COM-port on the computer with this connector, unlike some others that I have purchased. In short it is really easy to install and use - a really nice piece of kit. I would buy this again and I give it 5-stars.

Great product and value for money
Usually I tend not to trust converters for this price. But as this was for my workplace and with all the previous reviews I decided to bite the bullet and get 2.In fact these did not disappoint. They are absolutely brilliant for the price and using them for a month they have been working flawlessly. I used it with Windows 7 (both 32 and 64bit) PCs we have in store and it was recognized and worked as soon as I plugged it in. It also comes with the Drivers CD should it have issues. Build wise they are very sturdy. It is not noticable on the picture but there is a small LED light to indicate the Data coming through from the PC into our Receipt Printer which is handy. Overall, value for money and a very good product.

Good for your Raspberry Pi (PL2303)
This costs a bit more than some of the cheaper USB to serial adaptors, but works with both a Raspberry Pi (Debian) or Windows PC (Win 7).It is detected is Prolific 2303 chipset and worked fine. There is no driver disk as you do not need it!Well recommended.

Works well for Cisco Switch console connections
This is a Male connector (i.e the pins stick out) Wasn't clear on the product info page, but it's just what I need.I bought this to replace a cheap £3 cable I bought on Eay, which of course has never worked. Rubbish. First moral = buy cheap - buy twiceThis on the other hand works fine. Arrived within a few days, The XP/Vista/7 drivers are on a CD included. Installed the driver on my Win7 64 bit laptop, a message appeared to say the software may not have installed correctly but plugged it in and Windows ran through the Found New Hardware Wizard fine.I'm using it to connect to a Cisco Catalyst 2950 switch. Using Putty, you'll need to set it to "Serial", 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and XON/Off flow controlI have only tested that I can bash commands into the switch. I've not tested upgrading its IOS so can't vouch for speed, but the packaging claims that it can handle 230 Kbps transfer rate.

Highly recommended
I work as a sound engineer and a lot of processors out there have 9 pin RS232 serial ports on them in order to connect to the management software on your computer - the first particular unit I needed to use this for was an XTA SIDD, this converter is recommended by XTA and it's what they will sell you if you buy direct from them, so it was the obvious choice.I've used it on the SIDD with no problems, also on various other devices from Allen & Heath, Turbosound, Nexo, etc. and as long as you get the baud rate set right and assign it to a COM port within what the software can use it seems you can't go wrong. The activity light is a good extra so you know everything's working as it should. You'll also need this to use the XTA recommended RS232 to RS485 adaptor which gives you the option for longer cable runs on balanced XLR cables (down a multicore to stage for instance) and opens up even more hardware for remote control - that one's next on my shopping list. For under a tenner this should be in any system techs laptop case along with a decent length extension (it's nowhere near long enough to use on it's own if your hardware is in a rack) as chances are at some point you'll come across a situation where it'll be a life saver.
