EXCELLENT BOOK – gorgeous projects!
12/10/15: Punchneedle Embroidery is a wonderful book. I bought this book, because I want to teach myself how to do punchneedle work. Although I am not a fan of "folk art," the projects in this book do not all look overly "folk-artsy." In fact, a few of them look quite contemporary, so I look forward to getting started on a project soon. The book includes sections on Tools and Materials (the punchneedle, threader, backing fabric, patterns, floss, hoop, and scissors). It also explains how to: transfer patterns, put fabric in the hoop, thread the punchneedle, do the actual punching, and end the stitches. The authors describe the punching process, i.e., the order in which the various areas of a project should be punched (background, outlines, and so forth). For each project, the authors list the colors they used, although needlecrafters may use any colors they prefer. The authors explain how to finish a project and offer 4 different options for displaying your finished work. There is a detailed table of contents and an index, clear color photos of every project, and patterns and templates for each project. The last page shows a metric conversion chart, along with a "color conversion" guide, which lists the color names of hand-dyed flosses. This is already one of my favorite books. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it!

Nice Intro to Punchneedle Embroidery
This is an interesting book that explains how to do punchneedle embroidery and gives a number of rather nice designs to begin with. My favorite is the catfish, which is a cool combination of the top portion of a house cat and the tail of a mermaid. While it is technically a cat fish, it reminds me more of a feline mermaid and is lots of fun. The other designs are nice too and have a rustic, colonial feel. This is a nice introduction to punchneedle embroidery.

Punchneedle embroidery
Some crafts books have fabulous photos, but when you try to duplicate the projects, you discover that you can't because the author used some over-the-top talented artist type to do the pictured project and you don't have the talent or "secret" resources they had access to, so the book basically becomes a coffee table keepsake of fabulous photos. NOT SO WITH THIS WONDERFUL BOOK!!!! The projects are mouthwatering, for those who love primitive and folk art, and the instructions are easy, clear, and simple!! These authors really want to teach you this craft, and they see to it! I love the discounts I can get purchasing through Amazon.com, but this book is worth its weight in gold!

Great for a Beginner
Punch needle is a love of mine, along with the primitive designs. I was so excited to get this book, it was hard to wait. The pictures are pretty, and the designs are nice, but I just wasn't wowed by it. I'm not trying to bash the designer at all. I think it's just a matter of preference. I think there are a few designs that I would like to try. The old fashioned game boards are cute, and it has excellent tips and directions. It's a great book for a beginner to have on hand.

Great book!
I had borrowed this one from my local library and I loved it, so I had to order my own. I bought a used copy, and it is in very good condition! I am actually working on one of the projects now and plan to do several others.

Simple patterns - easy to use
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened this pattern book. Each pattern has great instructions and the back contains all the patterns. The patterns are easy to enlarge or shrink with a copier, or just trace straight from the back onto transfer paper. Styles range from folk art to modern and you can change the style yourself by choosing different threads and styles of punching.

Beautiful projects
This book is filled with beautiful projects. It has clear instructions, beautiful pictures, and nice patterns. I love that it has instructions and pictures showing how to finish the projects using tea staining, framing, applique, and matting. I just wish the hand-dyed floss used in the projects didn't cost so much more than regular DMC floss. Regardless, I'm looking forward to making some wall hangings for my house.

Brilliant book worth every penny.
Loving this book as it's so full of information about Punch needle, how to use the needle properly, what threads to use, what needle types and fabric is best. Great patterns and some very surprising ideas for Punch needle.
