Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs is an interns'-eye view of hospital life and the torturous, tragic, and triumphant route to becoming a doctor. The eminently likeable Zach Braff heads the cast as "newbie" J.D., whose years of medical school haven't quite prepared him for chaotic Sacred Heart Hospital. Family Guy has nothing on the live-action Scrubs when it comes to surreal asides and fantasy sequences (for example, J.D. literally becomes the proverbial deer in the headlights when he cannot answer a medical query), pop culture references, and TV Land casting (John Ritter guest stars as J.D.'s negligent father in "My Old Man," and St. Elsewhere veterans William Daniels, Ed Begley, Jr., Stephen Furst, and Eric Laneuville appear as Legionnaire's-stricken doctors in "My Sacrifical Clam"). With surgical precision, this inaugural season charts J.D.'s growth as a doctor and a human being, and the close-knit bonds he forms with his equally overwhelmed peers and colleagues, including best friend and surgeon Chris Turk (Donald Faison), beautiful, but raw-nerved and by-the-book Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), and supportive nurse Carla Espinoza (Judy Reyes'), who affectionately nicknames J.D. "Bambi." But at the heart of the series is J.D.'s relationship with his mentor, Dr. Cox (an Emmy-worthy John C. McGinley), a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and a pit bull. Giving Scrubs a further shot of adrenaline are recurring characters Jordan (Christa Miller Lawrence), Dr. Cox's satanic ex-wife, and Neil Flynn as the Janitor, who torments J.D. just as Larry Miller menaced Jerry in the Seinfeld episode "The Doorman."Scrubs' animated sensibility allows for inexplicable cameos by Jimmie Walker or, at one point, an impromptu West Side Story-esque dance-off to convey the schism between the surgeons and other doctors. But while hilariously funny, Scrubs can break your heart too, as in the two-parter "My Occurrence"/"My Hero," with guest star Brendan Fraser as Jordan's spontaneously spirited brother, who is diagnosed with leukemia, and "My Old Lady," in which J.D., Elliot, and Chris experience for the first time losing a patient. Whether you're a "newbie" or devoted viewer, this DVD release is just what the doctor ordered. --Donald Liebenson, .com

Just what the doctor ordered!
While most TV shows these days are content to play it safe and not take risks, Scrubs breaks all the rules and in doing so, is probably the breath of fresh air needed for the industry to break free and experiment. Scrubs follows a medical intern named John Dorian (J.D), played superbly by Zach Braff, and his friends and co-workers as they transend between being idealistic young interns, to being more mature residents. Scrubs is set mostly in the surreal Sacred Heart Hospital, but this does not mean that it centers around medical drama. The key elements of Scrubs are the emotions that each character feels and grows accordingly. Unlike many shows these days, Scrubs has a very surreal side, these are normally encountered as JD sees the events around him unfold. These are often very humurous visual metaphors or pop culture references - and these help inject fresh humour into the series. JD's best friend is a surgical intern called Chris Turk, who has been his roommate for a long time, throughout college and med-school. Their relationship becomes more and more stressed as they discover that working at the hospital is not all they thought it would be. Elliot, is an incredibly fast talking, neurotic woman, who more often than not, will say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Though the series does follow the interns, probably the best performace is given by Doctor Perry Cox, played by John McGinley. JD looks up to him as a mentor, despite the habit he has for calling him names such as 'Susan, Miranda, Katie, etc'. Despite his incredibly gruff exterior, Dr Cox always provides the right advice to help the interns get through life at the hospital. Another notable performance not to be forgotten would be Dr Bob Kelso, the Chief of Medicine at Sacred Heart, who initially poses as a comforting grandfather figure for the interns, but soon shows his true character as the menacing, money grabbing demon of the hospital. Scrubs is by far the best comedy around, and the way it can perfectly fuse the emotional turmoil, drama and longer running plots with fresh sense of humour really shows that is has plenty of life left in it.The DVD comes in a slip off cover, with the actual discs in an opening box set, detailed with pictures of the cast and several X-Rays of skeletons behind the discs. The menus feature an X-Ray board not unlike the one in the opening credits, which changes to show rolling clips from the season, and the 'Superman' full music video in the background. The extras on the disc are pretty in-depth and give you plenty of interviews with cast and crew, outtakes, gag-reels and a music video. The only problem which I have experienced is that in the episode selection of each disc, the actual episode does not correlate correcty to the one displayed, other people I have talked to have also mentioned this problem. But it should not really damage the overall viewing experience. In conclusion, Scrubs is a perfect comedy that blends psyhical comedy, with clever surreal scenes, but also shows the more serious side to their lives, the show always ends with a good message. The DVD is packaged and set up in a light hearted way that really represents the nature of the show - Highly Recomended

Scrub Up For The Best Comedy In Recent Memory!
After Friends, Frasier etc are all put to rest what will take it's place? How about a hospital comedy? Nah that'll never work will it? - Oh. Hell. Yes!!!!Scrubs is the absolute best comedy to come out of America in a very long time. It has the best characters the best gags and the best stories ever.In this first series we meet J.D. (short for John Dorian played by the brilliant Zach Braff) a young man who is about to start working as a hospital intern. With him is his best friend Turk (Donald Faison - "the Clueless guy") and they meet and befriend another intern by the name of Elliott Reed (played by Sarah Chalke) when at the hospital we meet Carla (Judy Reyes) a nurse who loves to get in everyones business and tell them what they're doing wrong. Dr. Robert Kelso (Ken Jenkins) the hospital chief of medicine who doesn't care about the patients and sees them all as walking dollar bills! The Janitor (Niell Flynn) who just seems to be there to torture J.D. and quite simply the best character ever!!! - Dr Cox (played by the brilliant John C. McGinley) Dr Cox is so brilliant. He's basically this wise cracking carcastic man who hates to play by the rules! All together they form the whacky staff of Sacred Heart hospital. The best thing about Scrubs is the writing. They set it up and knock it out of the park they like to experiment with the form of the telling of the story. The soundtrack is absolutely phenominal and the acting is brilliant. It's not your average sitcom it's so much more! They manage to keep it funny and at the same time become serious for the important things that help form these great characters. Which is probably why the show is so good. Every character is so deep in their own different ways of dealing with working in a place where you're going to be dealing with when working in a place filled with sick injured and dying people! In all there's simply no other way to put it - Scrubs ROOOOCCCCCCKKKKKKSSSSSS!!!! (I'm a bit of a fan!)On the first season dvd we get a one on one interview with Zach Braff deleted scenes, commentaries on certain episodes and alternate puns from certain scenes. Also the music video to the theme song for the show and a behind the scenes feature. All in all it's a great dvd boxset to get because a series this good is rare and should be treasured! I mean the trademark Dr Cox rants are worth the rental price alone!!!!

Simply The Best
Usually, the only things I watch that come out of America are films. Other than that its all rubbish. Yes even "friends". But scrubs is different, scrubs is quite simply the funniest program I have ever seen. Each episode has a mix between humour: involving flashbacks, daydreams and general jokes, and serious thought provoking subjects, as it is a hospital after all. The balance is struck perfectly meaning once you have stitched your sides back together from laughing, you realise the greater meaning of the episode. The characters are flawless. J.D. the main character: the show follows his experiences and revolves around his actions.Dr. Cox: is J.D.'s mentor. He is mean to J.D. and takes orders from no-one, he is one of the funniest characters due to his sarcasm.Turk: J.D.'s surgeon best friendJanitor: finds increasingly devious ways of making J.D.'s life helland the list goes on, each character has their own unique persona which creates dynamite viewing when they all come together. If you havent watched scrubs before, then obviously this boxset is the place to start. It introduces the characters as well as on going jokes that are held throughout the series's. It is also, in my opinion, the best scrubs series. So *"bust a move" and buy this dvd.*little scrubs joke/quote

Entertaining tv show.
Product arrived promptly. If anyone has not watched Scrubs, it's a satirical take on the doctors shows. It has comedy mixed with sound effects and oddball dream like states. It's entertaining for the days when you just want to kick back and watch something easy on the brain.
