Fascinating read
Ed Engle is fairly legendary in the fly fishing world, and for good reason. When your fishing buddies include the likes of John Gierach and A. K. Best, You’re in pretty heady company. It was the writings of these guys, as well as memories from the ‘60’s, that lead me back from graphite, through Fiberglas, to bamboo. First I bought fixer uppers, and learned to make them whole, then went on to modern makers and brand new rods, and before I knew it, I was as hooked as these boys are. Engle’s discussions with today’s split cane builders are informed and engaged, but more to the point, they’re driven by deep experience and true affection.

The Golden Age
Though I don't build fly rods I found this book fascinating. It tells many techniques and stories behind today's great fly-rod builders. It's inspiring to know that we are probably living in the Golden Age of bamboo fly rods, and that many craftsmen are still pursuing excellence. Now one of my goals is to one day own a modern bamboo masterpiece.

A wealth of information.
Great points from the masters. The other information is great as some of it never appears in other books. This is a must for first time rod builders. The information about Bern R. is very interesting as one of the new guru's of this master craftering of cane rods.

Great book, love it. Delivered promptly thank you!
I'm really not much of a reader. Usually what I read is research , technical or history related. This is well written,I have another new favorite author. I've been rebuilding bamboo fly rods, for a while, and I find this work truly inspirational. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in split bamboo fly rods and fishing them. Prompt delivery time doesn't hurt either. Thank you for a good experience, Again. Sincerely Dave

Good intro into currently produced bamboo rods
Ed knows what he's talking about: the rod features, insight into the builder's experience and how the rods cast. There is some care of rod info too.

Great Book
This is a fantastic book. Well written and extremely interesting and informative. However, this book could totally use some color pics of the rods he's describing. Also, the author describes every single rod in the book as being silky, oily smooth with no shock waves in the loop. A little constructive criticism would make this book a lot more credible. When every single rod is the best ever, the comparisons are rendered almost totally useless. I did love the book though, and couldn't put it down till I read every single page!
