Goodnight Moon

Ideal bedtime reading
This is a lovely little book. Baby bunny sits in bed in the "great green room" and says goodnight to all the things that are in it, and visible out of the window - the red balloon, the kittens, the teddy bears in the picture on the wall, the stars, the moon, etc. The pictures alternate between brightly coloured (the green room is really, really green) and black and white, and the text is rhythmic and soothing. Ideal for 12 - 30 months. (Or tired mothers after a long day at work.)Postscript: having now read this to 3 children over a number of years, I would recommend it as one of the items you should purchase if you are expecting a baby. Each child I have read it to has loved it. My middle son had rather delayed speech and I noticed that at 2 he was starting to come out with the words of this book - presumably because they are simple and rhythmic and very memorable. A really good book. (Plus of course though this is entirely immoral it is a nice short bed-time book if you are knackered.)

Beloved book
My great neice loves this book. She "reads" it to herself and her parents when they can't read it to her!It is a classic beloved by all children. I taught 3 and 4 year olds for 30 years, they adoreded it, it was read over and over again. My son love it, and all his cousins! A classic book a must have for your children.

My old time favourite Children’s Book
I am a childminder and twice I bought this book, it wore out from been constantly been read, I need to get another copy, but from having young children come and go this book has been their all time favourite when they are young, I even buy it as Christmas Presents. Something very magical about this book that never grows old, it’s either the simple illustrations, the rhythmic words are the children becoming familiar with the words it doesn’t take them too long to learn them off and minding and reading to children for years children love familiarity and simple words and picture at a young age. For anyone wishing to get a book for a 1 to 2 year old this is the book, you won’t be sorry.

23 month old is very engaged in this book
My son loves pointing out the objects in the book. No real storyline but good for developing his speech.

it has magical powers
When I first got this book with a load of other bedtime books, I was disappointed. The colours were horrible and the story and rhyme basic. It goes through items in a room and then says goodnight to them all. I chucked it on the shelf and forgot about it for a few months. Now that my baby has settled into a bath/story/bed routeen that we've set from the off, I rediscovered it and gave it a go. He's only 6 and a half months, and story time consist of him slapping the books, grabbing them and trying to eat them, and me wrestling them out of his hands to continue reading. I came to this one and one simple word describes what happens every time: CALM. I don't know what it is, maybe the colours work for babies, maybe it's the repetition of the word "goodnight" which my baby probably associates with bedtime, as we've always said it. Whatever it is, it works. It calms him down, I even get first yawns with it, and now we read it as the "end of story time" book. Can't say what it'll be like for one year olds, but if you have a baby of this age, I'd highly recommend it, despite it looking odd from an adults point of view.

Definitely has stood the test of time!
Please do not be put off by the review that says this book is boring. It’s my 16-month-old’s new favourite bedtime story. It’s classic, yes but very sweet how it gets dark slowly using clever colouring without any gimmicks. The black-and-white pages are purposeful - mimicking seeing things in the dark.I find many books these days have too many flaps and holes and textures when often the child’s favourites and those that spark imagination the most are just a plain, good old-fashioned story.I bought this when my little one became fascinated by the moon but now his favourite thing to do is look for the little mouse which changes position on each coloured page. When he finds it, he squeaks.Do not hesitate - buy this beautifully-written classic if you are looking for the perfect bedtime story.
