Possibly the best value tool I own
For £40 odd quid I can't recommend this enough. Useful for all kinds of things where most tools won't reach. It's cheap and clearly a DIY/budget tool but me and my Silverline 13mm belt sander have been to hell and back. Emotionaly speaking. Multiple, literal, weeks of my life I've spent crawling around under my rusty transit van, with this tool getting more use than any other. Paired with some decent zirconium belts it blasts through rust and is great for tidying up welds too. It's come in handy on carpentry jobs, but its performance on my van chassis is what's truly blown me away.My trusty steed has sadly given me the slightest notion that it might start failing (after 16 months and much abuse) and I've immediately bought another one. The motor etc. all seem fine it's just starting to slip out of the angle you lock the belt at, inconvenient but you can just correct it with your hand. So now the new tool will have the coarse grit and do the grunt work, and the old tool can retire to being my fine-grit friend for occasionally tidy ups without having to change belts every time.I know I'm chatting nonsense somewhat but I really want you to know, this tool is wicked.

Great budget sander
Easy belt change, slim design so great for tight areas, fairly powerful but can stall if pressure too high. Overall very pleased. Just buy some decent belts to go with it.

Useful tool
Fairly simple to use , instructions a bit confusing for changing the belt , worked ok on rust ,poor over undersealed metal , not heavy duty enough to linish welds flat quickly ok for finishing off ,glad I bought it as it can get into narrow areas ,it can be awkward to get into position around certain underside areas of a car .Belts don't last long ,I bought extra coarse grades

Brilliant in a word:)
This came as a surprise as its really quite compact compared to the B & D versions I have had for years (2 of and just about still going..) that lack the balance of this model as the motor is within its sleek body and not as the B & D models where its slung on the side and makes for a wieldy device considering the narrow working area it uses up. I have had Silverline products now over many years, since they started I would think, but the worse was an orange coloured belt sander supposedly listed as I recall ‘for heavy duty use’ or whatever but it barely lasted a year with occasional use and it finally gave out a bang with a blue flash and was thereafter mucho kaput - deaded - no longer working - so it was interesting to see if things have moved on with the current range. You get two belts supplied with this model and the first thing you notice with this sander is how light it is, fall and fits well in the hand almost like a decent sized torch, with placed at the rear out of harms way, a ‘on/off’ switch (naturally) plus a wheel type speed control that is more than ample as I found on the lowest setting for finishing some MDF off. It has a decent length of cable, plus the adjustable up & down 'blade' or sanding area is handy for getting into assorted areas and could be a boon to model makers, plus a small but basic owners manual - what is there to explain about it really? - and it comes with a 3 year warranty by registering on-line which I did. In use it works well, quite comfortable to use in fact and streets, or roads, in front of the B & D models as outlined above and I only hope it lasts longer than the above belt sander (please dear God, please..) but with a 3 year warranty perhaps the makers have some faith in it but so far it works wonderfully well and also it was delivered in very quick time as a added bonus. Should the situation change as to life expectancy and not succumb to the Bang n Blue Flash Deaded Syndrome, I will update accordingly. Recommended easily – 5 Stars

Lovely to use, plenty powerful enough
This will be used for cleaning the scroll work on a pair of iron gates. Silverline's power file is lovely to handle, not having a motor stuck one side but in the handle, its not too heavy, well balanced, has if needed, a connection for a vacuum to collect dust, and a long reach so as to get further inside a pipe, or in a mortise lock recess. This really is a lovely tool to use. The 260w motor has plenty of power to do the job, and having a belt guide/rest above and below the bar, means you can file upwards or downwards. It comes with a rocker On/Off switch and a variable speed dial. Another benefit is the sealed steel roller bearing at the files front, some other makes use hard rubber, which is not so good for nose filing. To change the belt, unplug the machine, and follow the instructions. If you cant find the Bars black tension release button, and you have the vacuum dust housing fitted, the button is found inside the housing. easier to find this release button if the vacuum housing is not fitted. The two black headed screws on the nearside of the bar, dont tighten these too much, the front screw of the two will seize the bar and it's unlikely to to move for belt changing, the rear screw ive found to have a minor effect on the bars tracking, so again, not too tight, mine was quite loose when the machine arrived, and a very delicate adjustment here corrected my bars tracking of the belt. Perhaps leave well alone and return the power file if the belt tracking is too far out. Or try another belt. The only failing I found, there is no official provision for tracking the belt. Although its not that far out of alignment it would be very useful if this tool did have this option. But then it would be more expensive.

Very easy for arthritis users
The belt arm adjusts up and down. As I havea bad right shoulder, this device takes the pressure off the shoulder, as with a more fixed arm on other powerfiles. 10/10 The motor is very powerful also.
