Outstanding everyday zoom
I’ve used this lens for weddings, christenings, families and children, holidays, architecture and landscapes, all on my Sony A7Rii. Although I’m normally a Prime lens fan - my favourite is the brilliant Sony-Zeiss f1.8 55mm - I’ve found that the Zoom advantages of better framing with concomitant reduced cropping can actually lead to better sharper results in many circumstances. Without a doubt the Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm has given some of the best results I’ve ever had. No complaints at all.

What Goes Around…..
I believe this lens struck a bit of a discord when introduced to the market as it seemed you could get similar/better performance (on other camera systems) for much less. And at that time, there was little native glass to compare except the (still) quite excellent Sony Zeiss 35mm and stellar 55mm primes. 10 years on, having owned the aforementioned and several other Zeiss; Tout, Batis & Loxia primes, I did have some doubts about this purchase in 2023 when so much else is now available, but considering it’s around 1/3 rd of its original cost and price of many current alternatives, I thought I’d take a punt. I have to say I am not displeased. Yes, performance may not be as good as some, especially primes, but that’s what you trade for convenience - it’s not far off. Only gripe maybe is that it lacks an aperture ring. My copy is sharp, even into the corners with judicious use of focussing and aperture. So today, I think the tables have turned and the older Zeiss offers the value proposition - very good balance between size, weight, build, performance and cost for the enthusiast. So I would recommend this If you want to take a cheapish mid-range zoom on your travels or day trips. If you take a lens to work, perhaps you’d buy a G master.

Disapointing images for the price
For a lens of this price, and with the Ziess connection, this lens is ok but a little disappointing. It's not as sharp as I would expect and not brilliant in low light. Have a good look at the reviews before you buy one and make your own mind up.
