Great quality bark.
This is the best orchid bark I’ve ever seen. We’ll see how long it holds up. Very clean, only has a very fine dust, just needed one rinse before use. The bark looks like little nuggets of smooth-ish, firm, dark, bark, as if it’s been tumbled. Seems kind of expensive but worth it if my orchids are happy, and they look VERY happy since repotting. The 2.5 gal. bag has repotted three 6” pots and two 4” pots.

Say Goodbye To Orchid Root Rot
As an orchid fan, I started using this medium about 2 years ago. Now I need to repot much less frequently and root rot is a thing of the past. I believe the AOS has recently recommended this product.

You can't go wrong with this, my phals love it!
When I first purchased this last year, I was a total orchid novice. I knew absolutely NOTHING about phals. I was gifted one and was told to re pot it ASAP. So I went on line, read a couple articles and this orchid bark was highly recommended. It wasn't anything fancy, just orchid bark. There was other kinds of bark mixed with perlite, moss, charcoal and other fancy crap. I won't say that that other fancy stuff is what you need but for my phals, this stuff is fine. I'm in FL and my phals are kept inside this is perfect for my needs. I was able to re pot 4 phals into 4, 2L soda bottles (I cut the bottles in half and poked into them for air flow) and I have enough to pot one more. I soak my phals once a week in the kitchen sink for an hour or so, then place them by the window that has sheer curtains and that's it. This bark holds them nicely, gives my roots lots of space to grow and allows the water to drain off yet still retain some moisture. The bark is only 6 months old and I don't see needing to re pot anytime soon due to it breaking down. I believe I purchased the power plus and I'm getting ready to order another bag since this meets my needs nicely. To those of you deciding if you should get this or some other type of bark, try this out. If it doesn't work you can always add stuff to the bark, but for me, this stuff is thebomb.com!!!

Love it
So far I absolutely love it. My orchids have been transplanted using this product for about a week now, so I can’t give a thorough review- but I can say my orchids still look great and are growing. I already had a second spike growing that was half the height of the first by the time I transplanted it and it’s still grown a little. I water again the week after next, and it’s the end of our blooming season. I am eager to see how they do and how well they bloom next season!!Only reason I gave four stars Is because I haven’t used it long enough yet to be more thorough.

Apparently not all orchids like it
I have never had orchids respond as badly to a new potting medium. I had three mature, thriving Phalaenopsis orchids that needed repotting. They all had very healthy root systems. For two of them, the ends of the growing roots shriveled and browned within a day of repotting, and some roots appear to have died in the weeks following. In general, the orchids do not appear to be as happy as they were in the two to three years that I had them before this repotting, but they have spiked since (they have almost constantly been spiking or in bloom since I have had them). I just had to repot the third orchid (using a different mix) as almost its entire root system died after using this bark. It started right after the repotting and continued. I am hoping that I will be able to save it, but I am certainly not confident. I have no idea if there is something wrong with the bag that I received or, if not, why my orchids responded so negatively to it, but there is no question that it did not work well for any of them and may have killed one.

The product is way too old (looks like decades old!) and powdery!
The original bag is too old and dirty. Half of the chips is very small and powdery. May be they've decomposed due to being too old. Very disappointed and will not buy again from this seller!

Orchids like it
I use this bark coupled with some spaghnum moss for my phals and they love it. Haven’t had much issue. I‘ll probably buy more once I’ve run out. The bag is a decent amount in my opinion for several pots worth. If you’ve got a larger orchid, maybe look for a more economical choice but this has suited my needs well. Recommend.

Easy to work with
I am new to orchid transplanting and I didn’t want to lose my way overgrown, continually blooming (this time 17 blooms at once) beauty, so I bought the best potting medium I could find. So far, so good.
