DON'T BE DUPED!
THIS "BOOK" IS SIMPLY A STUDY GUIDE AND DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY GRAPHIC NOVEL AT ALL. THE LISTING IS VERY MISLEADING. THE STUDY GUIDE REFERS TO PAGES BUT DOES NOT SAY TO WHAT OTHER BOOK IT IS REFERRING! THIS SHOULD HAVE COME WITH THE ACTUAL GRAPHIC NOVEL TO WHICH IT REFERS. I WANTED A GRAPHIC NOVEL NOT A STUDY GUIDE. THEY REALLY SHOULD RELABEL THIS ITEM! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS PURCHASE.

Two Sherlock Holmes Tales for the Younger Set!
Saddleback's Illustrated Classics series of comic books is aimed at introducing classic novels to the 9 to 12 year-old set while also teaching basic reading skills. Each book has been adapted by teachers and researchers to insure the adaptations "retain all of the excitement, intrigue and adventure of the original books." They apparently can be used with read-along tapes although the book being reviewed -THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES - did not come with that.In any case, THE GREAT ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES presents two Conan Doyle stories: 'The Speckled Band' and 'The Boscombe Valley Mystery.' Those unidentified teachers and researchers have done a fair job of condensing the two stories and retaining somewhat of the flavor of Doyle's original texts. In most cases the dialogue spoken by the characters rings true. The artwork is colorful and fairly effective in portraying the action. If a child has already sampled graphic novels, the Saddleback artwork might not trip their trigger. Otherwise they should enjoy the tales. The Saddleback books should be useful in introducing the younger set to Conan Doyle and other classic novelists. Recommended.

Saddleback Great Adventures
The study guide is one of two books Great Adventures of Sherlock Holmes offered by amazon.com. One is a graphic novel; the other, listed here, is a study guide for that particular graphic novel. The books are offered by Saddleback and if you go to the amazon.com search box and type in Saddleback Great Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, you'll get all the offerings. This is not a review, as can be seen, but a response to the reader who was put off that this listing for the study guide failed to mention for what. Hope this helps.
