Just lovely to write with
Great value pan. The nib writes beautifully and the body of the pen has a great texture. The carbon fiber is incredibly smooth and has a great visual texture. Black fittings keep the pen looking sleek. Fit and finish is dialed in, too. The cap’s click is incredibly satisfying when you close the pen and it posts great. Surprisingly hefty for it’s size, which feels good. The included converter has a huge capacity. Overall, this is an excellent pen for the price.

Astonishing value for money
This caught my eye and was a bit of an impulse buy. I had no great expectations, especially since my last Chinese pen purchase (a multi pack of Hero Parker 51 knock-offs) was a smooth writing but dribble, leaky, messy disaster.Well knock me over with a feather. Great heft, solid construction, spot on esthetics. A long pen, even longer if posted but still beautifully balanced. Medium nib flows like butter.I'll keep this short and simple: 1) absolutely marvelous pen at a price point that is just INSANE, 2) i love it so much i've just purchased two more Hongdian pens and cannot wait to get them. Trust me you will not go wrong with one of these gems. Congratulations Hongdian, you have done something wonderful for those of us who love well made, smooth writing, esthetically pleasing pens that are accessible to normal people.

Very much worth the money
I figured at this price, there's nothing that can disappoint. I was right. The brass is a little thin. That's fine, it works. Not too heavy, although I wanted heavy. Does what it's supposed to. Converter seems good. I like the design.Writes well, I guess. Ink flows well and all, but I bought this to try the nib style. "Knife point", or something. I didn't like it, but that's not the fault of the pen or manufacturer. It just turns out the nib isn't for me. I'll change it later. Maybe it'll grow on me. I don't know. The cap seems to be plenty secure. The feed flows. There's a little variation in the line, but I'm sure it'll be better with better paper, and it's not a calligraphy pen anyway. I'm not sure I'd carry it with me, with a snap on cap, but maybe it could be a pocket pen. Slightly bigger pockets.Yeah, I don't know what to say. The only remarkable thing about it is the price.Customer service sent me a message, so I asked about stuff. They send a link to the manual as well. Can't really say how it would handle heavy use. I just got it. I haven't even had a long session of writing yet.Yeah, it's fine. No complaints.Update:Months later, no patina developed. Tried to force it chemically to no effect. Found it to be yellow anodized aluminum, it some such. That explains why it's so light.

Nice pen, loose cap
Nice feeling pen, extra fine nib is very fine and writes nicely. If the cap was tighter, I would have given it 4 or even 5 stars. Unfortunately, the cap falls off easily, when on either end of the pen.

It is good, not great
This is my very first fountain pen. It is good, but not great. I really wanted a full brass fountain pen that will patina over time. So time will tell. It writes very well but there are a few issues that need to be addressed.- the cap will not post on the back of the pen.- cartridges are very difficult to install and you cold end up breaking your pen- the Cap is a lot lighter and does not feel like the same material as the pen. Some reviews say that it is plastic, and my first impression is that it was. However over time, I believe that the cap is actually brass, just a whole lot thinner. The cap not posting to the back isn’t that bad of a situation. When you do this, the pen tends to be heavy and a little more cumbersome. Still I would like that option, especially if I’m not at a desk or writing on a dedicated space. The cartridge problem is real. Just trying to get a cartridge to sufficiently mount into place was terrible. My first go, the cartridge would not mount and puncture the cartridge. Rather I was pushing acceptably hard and the cartridge erupted/split in my hands. So I’m switching over to using the converter that came with the pen and TWSBI Black ink.

Another Favorite Fountain Pen
The Hongdian Black Forest Fountain Pens, Are my favorite fountain pens, but I especially love the 1861 series. The 1861 Carbon Fiber is a great looking fountain pen. I was worried that it might be too light, but the carbon fiber is wrapped around brass, so it has the same feel in weight as the Brass and Steel versions of the 1861. I like that there is less step down from barrel to Section, on the 1861, making it comfortable to write for long periods of time. I have fountain pens that cost hundreds of dollars, but I prefer to write with the Hongdian Black Forest 1861s. In my opinion, the Hongdian Nibs are the best nibs to write with, being smooth and wet.

Excellent pen, even better at thhe price
I bought the raw brass model with the long blade nib. Experience with previous purchases from this brand have all been very good. This is the best yet. It is comfortably light, with a smooth easy to hold grip. The cap snaps on (literally), and is secure when posted. The long blad nib is a first for me. It is essentially a cross wise stub nib. In this case the line is narrow when the pen is moved straight away or toward you, and the broadest line when it is moved sideways. With the Hongdian black cartridge it nearly floats on the paper. Very highly recommended for a newbie starter pen, or a reliable daily pen for experienced users.

Punches Way Above Its Weight
I really enjoy the writing experience of this pen. I have a number of different fountain pens at various price points, and this one shocked me with its excellent feel and its consistency, particularly at this price point. It is inexpensive enough that I am not afraid to carry it around, and the snap cap is convenient and seals well. The weight is excellent and the brass color is very attractive (and is not tarnishing as a raw brass pen would). The flow is dependable and consistent, even with the extra fine nib. Highly recommend.
