I like the linen weave look and feel, though contrary to the name, it's 100% polyester. It does reduce the light entering the room somewhat, but it's far from a blackout curtain--I'm considering using some fusing tape to back it with blackout fabric. Still, the primary reason I bought this was to reduce solar heat gain in a second floor bedroom with a 4x4 west-facing window that's pummeled by the Texas sun, and that goal was achieved. Having added this to the existing vinyl blinds, the portable AC unit in that room now runs only occasionally instead of constantly. (A darker color would probably be better at reducing light but might be worse at reducing heat gain. The backing color is similar to the front, so a darker color would convert more light to heat.) One additional note: When comparing curtains, check the weight--this is one of the heavier ones.
