This little feeder has been one of my best Amazon purchases ever! I bought it to portion control and to keep my cat from waking me up too early for his breakfast. Not only did it get him on a feeding schedule for life, but it's still working perfectly after 6 years. I purchased a second one for a new cat we adopted because I knew the first one held up so well. It's easy to use, easy to clean and best of all it's MADE TO LAST.

We bought this feeder in order to remove ourselves from the feeding process for our very-food-focused stray and teach her patience. So far, it's been great. We have enjoyed 3 days of not being yelled at for 10 straight minutes while we prep her food, and she is learning to wait quietly near the feeder. I looked up a lot of feeders before purchasing this one, and this seemed to be the best price/quality match for our price range. The plastic is not as high quality as I would have hoped for given the price (hence the 4 stars instead of 5), and I'm pretty sure our two medium/large dogs could bust into this thing within 30 seconds if they go ahold of it, but we just keep it out of their reach. The cat so far has not been able to get into it, despite several tentative to more aggressive attempts. She hasn't unleashed cat fury yet though, so we'll see. The programming is easy, though, and the 3 feed slots are perfect for our needs. Our cat does not care about the deeper dishes as some people's cats seem to. It's not too loud, but makes a buzzing noise loud enough to cue the cat. Three main points sell me on this feeder currently: 1) the gears lock between feeding sessions, so she can't push the chambers around to reach her next meal early, 2) there are holes built into the bottom of the feeder where you can either screw it into a piece of wood or (as we did) use zipties to lock it onto a larger object so the cat can't flip it (it's not heavy, so that's definitely a possibility), and 3) it comes with a freezer pack (though we haven't tested this out yet). Oh also the buttons are hidden behind the shield so she can't mess with the timing. So, solid design at least. We'll see if it holds up. At the very least it has taken feeding time down from pure noisy stress to something approaching calm.

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. This feeder works great. It keeps my oldest cat from gorging on food and keeps the others happy at 3 AM! Just replace the batteries periodically or especially if you are going on vacation ( assuming you have someone checking on your kitties) and it's fine. I have tried other automatic feeders from pet stores and they don't last as long. Easy to program and use. Just get it and you will enjoy sleeping at 3 AM!

It’s an automatic cat feeder, works for dogs too !

Purchased this for our cat as he loves to wake us up bright an early, or in the middle of the night if he feels like it. He is ALWAYS hungry. We thought using an automatic feeder may train him to know once he hears it, then he can eat. NOT when he wants to, wake us up, then he can eat.Well, long story short, we never got that far. This worked for about a week before it would not turn, so the noise would go off and it would not show the side with food. Lou was NOT impressed. Also felt like the food pockets are placed odd, so he had a hard time getting food that moved to the corners. Would not buy again. Unless you want your feline friend to be even more ornery that usual when the food dispenser is call, and no food is coming.Dropping a pic of lou after waking us up, hearing the bowl, seeing no food. LOSING HIS MIND ON US. We fed him. We could not go back to sleep. But as you can see, he sure did.

Functions as expected, but has several quality-of-life issues I don't like.The main problem is the form of the bowl segments. They're a triangle shape, which means each section has corners that are difficult for my cat to reach. She often has to use her paws to rearrange the food, and sometimes she still doesn't get it all.Additionally, this unit keeps very poor time. I can't say this would be the case with all of them, but it certainly is with mine. It runs quite fast, to the tune of 15 minutes every couple weeks.One additional thing I would like to see is an option to have a beep or some noise when it's the next feed time. My cat often can't hear the sound of the motor and doesn't realize a meal has been dispensed. It's also kind of a creepy mechanical sound.Units with a large hopper attract ants in my house, so that's why I chose a hopper-free unit like this. For that reason, it gets the job done. But I think a cat feeder with a bowl shape that doesn't allow cats to easily get to the food is pretty unacceptable.
