Success and Failure
**** MY REQUIREMENTS ****I purchased Cable Matters products in the past and had no issues so I decided to go with this gender changer/coupler. My first priority is reliable data transfer and speed second. I have a USB 3 hard disk that I use to save images of Windows 11 for my PC and laptop to quickly recover from a complete Windows or hardware failure. My USB hard drive resides on a desk with limited space next to my PC. As of now to backup my laptop I will have to move the hard disk and laptop to another location. A USB extension cable connected to my laptop and the USB drive will eliminate the move.**** GENDER CHANGER/COUPLER HARDWARE ****First I decided to use three USB 3 flash drives and two male/male USB 3 extension cables to test the Cable Matters coupler.Flash drives: 2 well known brands and one generic brand. Photos 2, 3 and 4.Male/Male USB 3 cables: one 6 foot generic brand and on ten foot generic brand. Photos 2, 3 and 4.**** FILE COPY TEST ****Using the coupler with both the 6 foot and 10 foot male/male extension cable I copied files to all three flash drives. The name brand flash drives were successful using both cables. See Photos 5 and 6.The generic flash drive failed using the 6 foot cable (photos 7 and 9), but was successful using the 10 foot cable (photo 8). Note: the generic flash drive was successful with a direct connection without a cable (photos 10 and 11).**** CONCLUSION ****The successful test speaks for itself. Now for the test failure. What is at fault? There are four independent variables which are the 6 foot cable, generic flash drive, Cable Matters coupler, and the laptop. If I only had the 10 foot cable then this review would have been short and sweet.I don't have any high tech lab test equipment to pin point the problem. My personal opinion is I am going to shy away from the six foot cable and not use the generic flash drive for something important.

Saved me $$. With this I didn't have to buy a Male/Female cable!
Works fine. No problems establishing a connection. All my cables work with it, which is great.I'm using this with a 16 foot 3.0 Male/Male USB cable I ran from a gaming PC across the media room, under a rug, and along a seam of my couch, and under the fold of the arm rest. You just reach under and can pull out about 2 feet of cable to plug anything into my computer. Phones, laptops, thumb drives, tablets, devices, game control pads, etc. With this I can plug anything into my couch, without having to spend $$ on a new Male/Female cable so I'm happy! However, when I plug a male USB A cable into it, a lot of the male plug's metal shows. This presents a risk of static or something coming into contact with that metal that shouldn't. I know USB A cables don't plug in all the way flush, but USB connections are not usually out in the open like they will be with this. Since this is something that's more likely to be out in the open (concerning children and pets especially), the designer should have added a simple inexpensive short corrugated rubber sleeve on either end to protect the metal of the USB A plug. But it doesn't matter, everything is going to migrate to USB C eventually anyway.

It's A Coupler !
But at least these feel a bit more substantial. You have to give the cable a solid push and it stays connected well. I cannot speak for durability over time but based on initial observations it appears good. A bit pricey for 2 connectors overall but I would still recommend.

Not for USB OTG, probably.
I can't really fault this. However, I attempted to use this for Android (with use of the phone's charging cable) assuming these were going to support some kind of USB OTG functionality so I can read data on mobile devices, and unfortunately this doesn't work for that task. That, or my phone is incompatible with what I want it to do.Either way, this didn't work for my intended buying purpose, but if you are looking to use this as a means of pairing disparite USB devices and seeing what happens, or somehow using this as part of a USB extension then these connectors work as advertised.

not what I needed
the item itself was fine an arrived in good shape. I wanted it so that I could attach a thumbdrive with MP3 songs to a music player. was able to connect the two but was not able to access the files on the thumbdrive. Disappointed but not surprised.

Please do not accept this review
There is no way to say that I do not want to review a product and have it removed from my list of items. I might want to do this for items I purchased for someone else and/or items that I returned. I put in an enhancement request for this today. I am hoping by submitting this and you not accepting this that it will disappear from my list of items to review.

Inexpensive way to connect two USB 2.0 Male cables to serve as a cable extender
Enables you to connect two USB 2.0 Male cables to serve as a cable extender.I have also purchased a SIENOC USB 2.0 Male to Micro USB Female Converter ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GIF4E08/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_56 ), which enables me to connect two microUSB cables to increase the length. This adds huge versatility to my existing micro-USB synching and charging cables. They are really small light so they are easy to carry everywhere so that you have them when you need them. And at $9.99 for two, they are an inexpensive way to add versatility for when you need it.
