The Carl Barks Fan Club Pictorial: Old California Special Issue Paperback – Special Edition, August 17, 2015

Excellent item, excellent price.

Carl Barks never produced a bad story or art. This issue of Carl Barks fanzine reproduces in great color the entire saga of the Ducks in "Old California".. I have the original comic plus a BW in the Carl Barks Library. So I really didn't need another one. I was hoping for more commentary but there was very little. If you are not familiar with "Old California" you are in for a special treat. I only rated it a 4 star because I wanted more background material. It is a five star story. If you don't have it; you will love this edition.

To be able to see a restored story from Carl Barks is always a treat. And this was not the first, since other stories have been shown in previous volumes. As indicated in the introduction to the story shown in this volume (In Old California!), this was the one "closest to his heart". The one thing that I envy the most is the fact that while working on it and zooming all over the places, it is possible to appreciate the fine details of Barks' work, that can be easily lost in poor reproductions of his stories. Of course we all would have loved to have more background on the story and on the very many settings shown in it, but there was no space for it and I am sure many of us know most of the background.We are hoping for more to come!Andrea
