Q: Would this mirror work well for when I curl my hair?

Q: Where is the other mirror for the back of the hair? It's clearly shown the first picture. It was the difference that made my decision to purchase.

Not sure I'm understanding, but.. I believe it's pictured showing the 3way, fold out sides, with it hanging on a door. The "back" mirror, would be your regular bathroom, bedroom, existing mirror. This enables you to see back & sides of your head/hair, and frees your hands to style or color ( instead of holding a "hand mirror". Hopefully this helps you.

Q: What are the hinges made from? Plastic or metal?

Outside is plastic but may have metal rod inside.

Q: Does the mirror need the support of a door or wall in the back? In other words can I free hang it and have it hang straight?
