Q: Is the upper rim of the mug supposed to have thin ring of rough exposed clay between where the inner glaze ends & the outer glaze begins?

Not sure how it's supposed to be, but it is glazed all over, no clay exposed

Q: Do these mugs stack upon each other to store in cabinent?

They don't stack well because of the handle. It's a heavy mug so I wouldn't stack it just in case it topples.

Q: Can this withstand a tea candle, or is it likely to crack?

I’ve never tried to add a candle, but I would think it would be ok as it handles boiling water just fine

Q: Is this made in France?

None of Le Creuset's ceramic products were EVER made in France. Just the enameled cast iron ones.
