A Book That Will Stay with Me Forever
🌟 A Profound and Life-Changing Read 🌟Some books touch your heart, but this one reached right into my soul. From the very first page, I felt honored to step into the Asher family’s world—one of deep love, resilience, faith, and undeniable miracles. This book arrived in my life at exactly the right moment, like a divine gift of comfort.I first discovered Katie and Houston’s story through The Telepathy Tapes podcast, and I was immediately drawn in. But nothing could have prepared me for the depth, truth, and raw emotion within these pages. Katie’s writing is so intimate that it felt like I was sitting across from a dear friend, listening to her share the most vulnerable pieces of her heart. She wrote this book with all the truth in her soul, and you can truly feel it.Katie invites us to tap into our deepest empathy, to see the world through Houston’s eyes, and to recognize the incredible strength within those who are so often unheard. Their story is one of hope—of finding a voice where the world only saw silence, of faith that persists even in the darkest of moments. It is raw, honest, and deeply moving. I found myself laughing, crying, and, most of all, reflecting on the power of love to transcend all barriers. For anyone who cares for or works with non-speakers—including those who are unreliably speaking (meaning they may be able to express basic wants and needs but struggle to communicate beyond that)—this book is essential reading. For anyone seeking proof that miracles still exist, that faith can carry us through unimaginable trials, and that love is the most powerful force we have—this book is a must-read.It’s the best $22 you’ll ever spend—because what you gain from it is priceless.Thank you, Katie and Houston, for sharing your hearts with the world. Your courage and wisdom will stay with me forever. ❤️

This Book is What it Claims to Be, But So Much More
Firstly, I loved this book. It has a beautiful, neurodivergent way of encompassing the ENTIRE picture. There's a whole world in this book. It is a saga. It takes up space and demands to be seen and heard. You can feel all their pain, trauma, joy and accomplishment like you're right there experiencing it with them. I want to address the negative reviews in this list for a moment. Like many in these reviews, I discovered Katie and Houston from listening to The Telepathy Tapes podcast. I was inspired to read their book to learn more about them, and the incredible gifts Houston experiences. However, I did not go into reading it expecting to be reading an "Autism" book that would focus solely on the autistic experience and nothing else. From the title, logline and description, it's pretty obvious this book is spiritual and deeply rooted in Christian faith. It also references her "decades of trauma, loss, abuse" in the book description. Anyone who didn't expect to find these things in the book needs to practice better forethought before making purchases! I do not say all this to discourage those seeking to gain insight into the autistic experience from reading this book. If you only want this book for the autism content -- it's worth the purchase. There's so much in there, about the science, Houston's lived experience, Katie's experience as a mother navigating a failed system, all of it. Best of all, Houston's own words--his peculiar and completely unique voice describing the autistic experience in ways that unlocked hidden recesses in my brain and connected the dots to my own experience with autism in new, miraculous ways. All of that is worth the purchase. On top of that it has Katie's life story, a true Book of Job tale of being tested in faith again and again and again. Yes, at times it's difficult to read. A life lived through faith is messy, imperfect, difficult, unrelenting at times. I know of another book that has difficult passages--but within those difficult passages are the secrets to LIFE and LOVE, and it's a book that has stood the test of time. If you're not a religious or spiritual person (I'm not sure why you'd buy a book called The Book of Heaven but nonetheless) this book it STILL worth it as a testament to disability advocacy, autism advocacy, the science behind our brains and nervous systems and energy and thought and consciousness. I could go on and on, this book as something for everyone. Trust me. Have patience and faith. It is worth 22 bucks to BUY THIS BOOK! So grateful for people like Katie and Houston, who don't make themselves smaller or more palatable. Who are fearfully and wonderfully made and show us every part of them.
