Poor rehash of a UE4 version with much that's inapplicable
I'm surprised by the positive reviews.I'm an experienced UE user and was reviewing this for internal training. Definitely doesn't make the cut.The most important thing to know if you don't know UE, and want to learn UE5, is that the claim that this is a new edition and covers UE5 is mostly false. When it covers input it covers the old system and doesn't even make mention of the new system in 5.When it takes the reader through their first steps it references the old FPS sample, while contents in the new sample (partly due to the new input system), are in different places, organized very differently. This pattern is repeated all over the first half of the book (at which point I just gave up). Now, if you're willing to overlook that and put in the leg work to do your exercises in a different setting, it's still not a good book. It's a "by examples" book, but what you get is usually multiple examples that really treat the same simple operation over and over, with no regard for fundamentals or elaborating on the choices. The choices are also fairly poor and smack of writers who started to teach without having done the work.Take what you learn in this book in a real game job and you won't make it very far.Look somewhere else. Freebies on YT will cost you less, and teach you more.
