The Sound of Satisfaction: Turning Used Headphones into Treasured Tunes
I had formerly used a pair of Razer BlackShark V2 Special Edition headphones and they were alright with the quality and sound. Nothing special but they got the job done when gaming. When I built a new computer in 2022, I knew I was going to need some better headphones. I did a lot of research and still couldn't make up my mind. I ended up buying a couple of pairs of different headphones (Sennheiser - [DROP + EPOS PC38X Gaming Headset] and [Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT headphones]). I originally thought that buying a pair of Sennheiser (EPOS PC38X) headphones would be a good idea because I remember from childhood that Sennheiser made good products. However, I found them to be incredibly uncomfortable to wear. So I decided to go buy a pair of the Corsair Virtuoso XT. The Corsair Virtuoso XT were super expensive, but I didn't want to cheap out and just settle for something. I wanted to make sure that I had the best pair of headphones I could comfortably wear for long periods of time. I had my family members try on both pairs of headphones and tell me which pair sounded more realistic sounding. I ran around in a random city in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as a benchmark for testing sound quality with what I was intending to do with the headphones. It was agreed by a majority of my family that the Corsair Virtuoso XT were better sounding and more comfortable to wear. I ended up returning the Sennheiser and sticking with the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT headphones. After enough time had passed, I came to realize that for as much money as the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT headphones cost, I really wasn't using them a whole lot, so I ended up returning them to the local big box retailer I bought them from. I walked away entirely from the idea of owning a really nice pair of headphones. I felt bad about the whole experience and found myself living with the regrets of maybe I should have kept the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT headphones. The big box store gave me a hard time about returning the headphones; in fact, they made sure to open the box in front of me and inspect them to make sure I wasn't trying to pull a fast one. They made me feel like a criminal returning something I couldn't justify owning because they were super expensive. I knew the Corsair headphones were the right headphones for me, but the price point was over-the-top for something that I barely used but a few times in a 90 day return window. I kept looking at them on Amazon, hoping for a deal because I certainly didn't want to go back to the big box store. One day it occurred to me that maybe I should just try to get a "used pair" of headphones that were in "Like New" condition from Amazon. They were like half the price (being used) compared to the big box store, and I figured that was more than fair and certainly more palatable than sinking almost $300 in a pair of headphones. I decided to commit myself to owning the used pair of headphones versus living with the regret of not owning "that really nice pair of headphones". When I received the "used pair", it was really no different than buying them brand new. The fact that they had been used kind of skeeved me (considering someone I didn't know had their ears in them), but I noticed zero difference in the overall appearance and quality of the product. I tried to get over the idea that someone I didn't know wore them at one point, but I guess I'm just particular like that. I decided that I'd see if I could just buy a new pair of ear muffs for the headphones, and this product came up in the search results. There were certainly quite a few options out there, but these seemed to offer the best features, especially offering more padding and noise-canceling effect. I was pleased to find that this product not only lived up to what it claimed to do but added more comfort to an already awesome product. I was quite pleased with the quality. The padding does add some noise-canceling effect, which is something the original product lacked. I also found the overall product quality to be aligned with "nicer headphones" versus the stock ear muffs. My only real complaint about these ear muffs is that I wish the L and R inside of the ear muffs were a different color that stood out more. I have to inspect the Corsair headphones every time I put them on to ensure the left side of the headphones is going on the left ear and the right is going on the right ear. I also found the lack of installation instructions kind of disappointing. I ended up watching a video on how to remove the ear muffs from the original product. Other than that, I have no complaints.I would highly recommend this product and would also recommend that if you ever need to own a pair of expensive headphones, consider doing what I've done here. Look for a "Like New" quality used pair on Amazon and just buy new ear muffs. It's really a sweet deal to save nearly $200 on something that is practically brand new and to end up with a better product than the original design.
