pleasantly surprised
Love this book. It was very informative and helpful in my efforts to lose fat. I was very skeptical about the liver detox and adrenal healing, but was pleasantly surprised by the results. Or, I should say I was unpleasantly surprised by the liver detox - I really did feel terrible for those two weeks, but felt an improvement after the detox was over. I've actually decreased the amount of exercise I do (I used to be on a competitive rowing team with 1.5hr practices 5-7x per week), increased the healthy fat I eat, and gradually changed my body composition (lost fat - 30% to 25% over 2 months - and see more muscle definition). I think, among other efforts, understanding the xeno-estrogens I'm exposed to and how to avoid them and understanding how to balance my hormones has really made losing fat easier for me, despite my initial skepticism. I never did give up my morning coffee... and haven't really adopted a meditation/deep breathing practice, but those might help even more. The book does attempt to sell you Dr. Tami's products, but you can find alternatives to those if you prefer. I didn't buy anything from her website, but used the product details as a guide to choose similar products elsewhere online. For comparison, I should say that I'm 33 years old, have always been active with exercise and health conscious, and my body typically responded quickly to exercise - building muscle and losing fat. But I noticed once I hit ~28 yrs old, my energy started to take a nose dive, everything was more difficult - climbing stairs, motivating myself to go grocery shopping, etc. - and I started putting on fat like it was my job and couldn't resist sugary desserts and snacks. I really didn't think about my hormones until I read this book.

63 and Feeling Fabulous! This is a Great Book!
I recently purchased this book. I've spent years trying to balance my hormones and was so close, I needed this book to help me finish getting there. It answered questions I couldn't find answers for, and it helped guide me to the right supplements, some of which I already had on hand. Having struggled with Adrenal Collapse many times in the past 15 yrs, I now know how to stop myself from ever going back there again. It's hard to have a life when you are 63, overweight and sickly. I now feel great and I'm gardening again. I can kneel down and get up without crawling to the stairs or asking for help. I look forward to getting that Harley out of the garage again before the end of summer. I'm telling you, I am so Grateful I found Dr Tami. And I hate doctors!! But this lady did her research and speaks the truth. I've been researching for years also, so I know BS when I hear it. And there isn't an ounce of it in this book. Did I mention I've only finished the 15 day liver cleanse so far and I feel this good? I can't wait to keep going and get the weight off. I'm already losing in places I thought would always be fat. I eat good food and with the green juices I'm never hungry. I've reduced my Armour Thyroid from 180mg a day to 90 mg a day in just 2 weeks, and before I'm done I will not need it anymore. I hope everyone who reads this book gives it a chance. Even if you cannot afford all the supplements, do what you can. Research them and figure out which ones you need the most. GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!
I took the quiz on the description page and in the book once I received it and checked off a lot on the list - so much so I went to my doctor convinced I had hormone issues. I had blood tests and my hormones were excellent. I think this is a great introduction to learning more about hormones and how to address the issues, however, just make sure there is an issue before diving in. I think it would be wise to GO TO YOUR DOCTOR and get a REAL TEST before committing to the suggestions. Additionally, I think it could have been shortened quite a bit while delivering the same message.

and lifestyle choices that may better or worse our disease state
Well written for anyone to understand. All women and men should read this book to have some empathy/sympathy of all the chronic disease. The diet book is different than what most are use too but I would also add the book "Brain Grain" to compliment this book. Grains/carbs in general are not food and have no place in our diets. Protein breaks down to glucose, glycogen, and building blocks; why do we want more carbs? To feel the opiate response to them. The hormone secret book gives us understanding of hormone response to our diseased diets and a fix to the infamous adrenal fatigue, thyroid dysfunction, hormones in general, and lifestyle choices that may better or worse our disease state. Quit smoking, stop bing eating/drinking, and take a deep breath because Alzheimer's, diabetes type 2&3, and dementia are all coming your way.

Same as other books on this subject.
I like that Dr. Mergalia uses layman terms in explaining things. The book is pretty much the same as others talking about menopause. The amount of supplements and herbs can be expensive and I hesitate to use some of these because of side effects I have read about.

A must read by all!!!
Everyone needs to read this book. Educates you on women hormones and how it all works together. I use it as a reference guide. Men needs to understand this as well in understanding women and why they feel bad. Its hormones, not the man if there are issues!
