Why Resin? Just Buy Wood.
I'm really not a fan of the smell... or the material.I'm a novice incense burner via charcoal (I've always used stick incense for years), and thought resin is the way to go. Honestly, if you want a real burn, you should go with a wood type incense rather than resin.Unless I put too much, the resin will extinguish and crystalize the charcoal. So I tested it with a little amount of resin, but not much smell will come out. I would add more as time goes but this gets annoying if you like to use incense almost all the time--having to get up to add more. Using a wood type incense is easier, you can put all you want on the charcoal and walk away without having to get up frequently to add more. You get a bigger and better smell depending on the wood you buy. Whatever wood that does not burn, you can store for later. You cannot do that with the resin. As for the smell, it's god awful. You really have to acquire the smell. I really believe it's the resin material that makes the smell so bad... I say this because when I use dragon blood resin, I get a similar odor. I use different types of wood, and I don't get that strange smell. So I really think it's the burning of the resin. White Copal smells good on it's own... just not when it's burning. If you really want to buy this product, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the quantity. I have so much White Copal resin that I don't know what to do with.I hate rating anything other than 5/5, but I'm an honest person, and would appreciate reading other honest reviews. So here you go. My advice, just go with a wood type of incense.

NOT genuine copal! RIPOFF!!
This product deserves ZERO stars. It is NOT copal! It is just some cheap white resin with possibly a very tiny amount of genuine copal mixed in with it. People who think that you should have to burn this stuff are idiots. If this was real copal, the aroma would be strong and unmistakable before you even open the plasted bag, and upon opening the bag, you would have no doubt that it was real copal. Applying heat to resin will accelerate the release of aromatic compounds, but they escape readily at room temperature, and it sure as hell is not necessary to "burn" it, as somone here suggested. Why would anyone think that? Don't they have any idea what it is that makes an aromatic compound an aromatic compound? When I order this junk, it was sold by "EarthWise Aromatics". They are no longer listed as the seller. The name given to the product is "White Copal - 4 Ounces - Bulk Incense Resin by Bulk Resin". The exact same product description with this same name is now being sold by a different seller, "Atharva Products", and fulfilled by Amazon. There's no telling who these "companies" actually are, but THIS PRODUCT IS A RIPOFF, AND AMAZON IS THE ENABLER OF THIS SCAM! Amazon has never been a particularly ethical company, but if they desired to earn the reputation of being an ethical company, they would stop enabling this kjnd of scam. This product is most likely packaged simply by buying the 1-lb bags of that junk from Indonesia and then repackaging it in 4-ounce bags. It is all but certain that this is what is going on here. Real Copal does NOT come from Indonesia. If you receive a product that is supposed to be copal and you don't smell it while holding the plastic bag in your hand, it most likely is not copal. If you open the bag and take a little whiff and the smell is anything less than overt, I guarantee you that it is not Copal. Amazon, you need to clean up your act and stop being the enabler of rippoffs of this sort.

but then I get to enjoy my pungent peace and quiet
First, I read that this would elevate my spirit to another spiritual plane. Accordingly, I gathered my family nearby so that we could all benefit from the scent as it burned in our charcoal brazier. The chunks of copal were very mild scented and fairly large. Packaging was excellent- double bagged inside a bubble envelope. Once this incense started to melt, my husband, unaware that I was attempting to elevate his spiritual plane, jumped up from the couch and started screaming that our house was on fire. My children panicked. There was a lot of running about, flinging open the outside doors, dousing the brazier with water, and overall mayhem. It took at least two hours before we could both agree that our nose hairs weren't burnt off by the very powerful scent. After this incident, I took care to burn it only on our front patio. My neighbors dramatically slam their windows shut whenever I burn this, but then I get to enjoy my pungent peace and quiet. Highly recommend this product and seller.

I love the sent of copal
I love the sent of copal. It is one of my favorite resins to burn on top of charcoal. Great for clearing out negative energy. I also use it for crystal cleansing/smudging. I love it more than sage, frankincense, and sweat grass for smudging. Some of the resin pieces were a bit too large to my liking, the scent is extremely potent, so a very small piece goes a very long way. You only need to drop one small one over a heated charcoal and you will be able to smudge an entire large room and then some. This pack will honestly last me several months to a year.

Good quality. A nice surprise.
I'm new to copal, but was interested in the aromatic effects and holistic meaning of the scent.I like it, but only if I'm in the mood for something with a hint of a "smoky/woodsy" aroma. One really cool thing that happened was that it really did behave like genuine amber. I left some of it in the burner long after it had cooled and it formed like a piece of amber jewelry and trapped a couple of ants inside the resin. I'm tempted to get a mold of some sort and see if I can make a pendant for a necklace.
