Watch the battery life
Nice portable receiver. Only minor things I dislike, maybe I'm missing something, is that there is no scroll feature concerning multiple alarms. It only displays the number of alarms since last clearing and time of the last alarm. Second, as the internal battery weakens, the battery level bars disappears one by one. With mine, one bar disappears as it's used, then when it's time to recharge, the display just goes completely blank with just a barely visible battery level bars. In other words, it doesn't work like a cellphone battery indicator where it goes down just one bar at a time. Mine, just BAM.... Surprise, surprise. Dead receiver. I'll watch and see if this is a continuous issue.

These are great!
I use six of these to monitor my house on 10 acres near the road. I had transients walking up and cars pulling up in my driveway surprising me.Now i know when someone is around period! I set them up to give me redundancy and it works good! Batteries work in the freezing cold and last for months! Reliable! you can trust these devices.Yes deer set them off but you can set them up to minimize this.I am going to add an additional set to turn on to cover the remote areas if SHF.Thanks Dakota! a product that works well!

Much better than the 2500 and 3000 series
I had been using this to cover a gate for many years with the 2500 and 3000 series. The new 4000 series seems to work much better.People walking by will set off the alarm but I wanted it to detect vehicles waiting at the gate. With the old system it was a bit hit and miss but the newer system has not so far in 2 weeks failed to detect a vehicle waiting at the gate. One problem with this system is that it will work great with a car which is warm but often fails to pick up a car exiting which I put down to the car not warm.As is used to detect a vehicle arriving then the chances are it will not be a cold just started up vehicle this has worked OK for what I needed. If you would need it to be 100% on vehicle detection on warn or cold vehicles then it maybe better to go for the probe version or the rubber hose version.I could not use the probe as is too close to the road and next to a large metal gate.I did also buy the rubber hose version but have yet to try as this is so far doing the job and I still have not been able to straighten out the rubber hose which came coiled up.The new style pager receiver is almost twice the size of the old style but battery lasts much longer and is much more reliable receiving a signal.I have found it well worth the money and works much better than the older 2500/3000 series.

frequent recharging
It keeps a nice record of when the motion detector triggered, which is unusual in motion detectors, and very important.I find I have to recharge the unit more than once a week. It does not have a standard AC plug for constant use. I could leave it plugged into the charger all the time, but that can be dangerous for lithium ion batteries. Too many steps to clear the motion detection history: press 2 buttons, press 1 button, press 2 buttons, press 1 button, press 1 button. I may have missed a step. Extra button pushes to select different zones.

Quick installation with peace of mind.
Setup and instructions were pretty easy. I initially bought this as an additional security measure because I've had a car prowler a few times that was captured on my Arlo but didn't know they were around. The most shocking time when we were watching tv around 6:30pm and it was dark outside. With the other cars we have in the driveway, I had no idea until a neighbor stopped by and said he chased the person away.My driveway and gravel area is about 30' wide and with the monitor set at the 50' range, I have the entire area including part of my front yard covered. It's been an excellent little monitor for getting notifications when a car happens to pull in, or when a package is being delivered and we're in another room. The IR beam is very narrow which is great because I was worried about it going off when someone is walking their dog or cars for that matter. Some people have mentioned a lot of false alarms but we haven't had that... maybe a handful or so over the last 3 months (all in the day). I will say this, in the mornings or when a car is cold (mainly white cars) it fails to trigger, but I don't consider that a deal breaker. When I got the Dakota DCMA-4000, I did need to reach out to their support after about a week or so because after adjusting the dip switches and testing, I noticed the receiver was blinking but there was no audio. I reset it per the instructions and paired it again and same result. Support (which was really helpful btw) told me that since I bought on Amazon, they may have had an older product that had the faulty speaker because they got reports of the speaker not working. They mailed me out a new speaker and was able to unplug the old one and replace. Sure I could have returned/exchanged for a new device, but figured since I was within my return window, this was a quick fix and it did resolve my issue.
