Easily replaced old hard-wired detectors, good value.
These Firex smoke detectors installed fairly easily, even though my ancient original wired-in Kidde-brand detectors use a different base plate and wiring plug. The new base plate installs on standard electric outlet box screws, and the included pigtail plug can replace the old pigtail plug using the wire nuts that are probably already in the ceiling. I also bought conversion adapters between the old and new plug configurations, and that sped up replacement on some detectors, but probably wasn't worth the cost. For new construction, you could use a common wire to connect all your smoke detectors, so that they all go off if one detects smoke. An interesting feature, but I don't really need it. I tested the installed detector with some smoke, and it went off went it should have. I'm hoping that it won't go off as quickly as the last model, which activated every time we fried something on the stove.A good value, especially considering that it also includes a 9-volt backup battery. Hopefully, these detectors last as long as the old ones (20 years), even though I'm now learning that the ionization isotope used decays and is no longer sensitive after only 10 years!

Every ten years!
These have replaced old Firex Models 120-1072B.( Hard wired). The old units were going off in the Hottest part of the day, But usually only 2 -3 units. The House temp was set at 75. But they go off the same time every day. When they started going off at night I Though they were probably used up and time for replacements. So decided on these since it was a 4 pack and We'll need 7. And I seen other reviews that people used for the same old model. The ones I received were dated Feb 2021 (now July 21) They came with a battery, and hard wire to connect the new smoke detector to the house wiring. Not that much of a problem once you find which breaker it is to turn the power off. Just 3 wire connections and new wires matched my old wire colors. Installed, pulled battery tabs and powered up(120v). Blinked red twice, then went green. Green is on to show you have 120 volts. Push the test button and all alarms went off.I like the fact it does not have to be removed to refresh the battery. Battery door is accessible when installed. It also has a Low Battery "Chirp". You can push the test/ Hush button and it will silence the chirp for13 hours. It has a list of batteries you can use in the unit, however they say NOT to use Lithium Batteries. Will see how these work and if okay, will order more to replace the rest of my old units.

Easy to install!!
All the parts were there for making the wiring connections from the older models to the newer, making the installation a breeze! Took only a couple of minutes for each one, taking down the old detector and replacing the new. Holes were in the right place for the new one to pop right back up where the old came from. The adapter wiring harness was there, didn't need to do any electrical work or turn off power, the connectors went right in and the harness fit in the electrical box. Works great!

Kidde i4618 Firex Hardwire Ionization Smoke Detector with Battery Backup (4...
Good product and 'very easy' to install. If you decide to get this product get the adapters so that no rewiring in needed. Made the job easy and installed 4 of them in about a half hour. The only reason I gave this product a 4 star rating is that although the batery compartment is in the front, (which makes it easy to access and replace the battery, if needed) it is a bit flimsy, so be very careful with that, otherwise it's a really good product and I would most certainlty recommend this product.Good price, easy install, works great for me, the only issue I have is that the battery cover, although easy access, could have made a little better. Fast delivery too with Standard Shipping.

Good Replacements
OK, to start with, I bought these 4 1/2 years ago. They were direct replacements for my original Kidde detectors that the builder installed in 1995. They installed easily and I basically forgot about them because typical of a good smoke detector, no smoke = no cares. I didn't write a review then because I tend to wait to see if something works before I write a review and as I said earlier, I forgot about them.Anyway, I wanted to write a review today because when I got home from work yesterday I heard a beep. Yep, batteries needed to be replaced. I felt like they didn't last long until I got on the step stool to replace them. I date every battery I install in anything because I can never remember when they were installed. The ones I pulled out yesterday were the ones I installed when I put the detectors on the ceiling. Yes, the original batteries lasted 4 1/2 years. The original builder's Kidde detector batteries wouldn't last 2 years. I'm impressed.

Works perfect with old Firex models!
I replaced some very old 2003 smoke detectors Firex model 120-1072b that had a different long-back AC connector than the new square design. This new model came with some wiring but I opted for the lazy route and just bought some adapter converters (as pictured) and worked like a charm! I should also note these new detectors do include batteries for a backup power source. Took 30 minutes to replace 4, but I also have 20 foot ceilings.

Great price and works great.
My daughter had a problem with her hard wired smoke detectors beeping all the time. I changed the backup batteries but the beeping came back in a few days. I called an electrician and he recommended changing all the smoke detectors. I bought eight units at a great price, installed them and the problem is resolved. Great price and quality units.

Replace your old 120-1072B
I swapped out several old Firex smoke alarms (model 120-1072B from 2001) with this one. Used the KA-F adapters and it was easy.- Using the KA-F adapters made it a +10 job.- If you have the time and feel like rewiring, +20 min job and don't buy these. It's an easy rewire, even a caveman could do it (not to disparage any cavemen out there). If you don't have much room in your electrical box on the wall, you should go with the rewire option. The adapters take up substantial room in the box.The wall mount plate was a bit bigger than the old one, but that's good because it hides everything.
