BEWARE OF WHAT LURKS IN THE WOODS
Though today the film is very dated, it does have its moments, including its fairlyearly use of special-effects of the day (of course over the last 2 decades Special-Effects have indeed offered virtual reality)In this we see L.A news-anchor Karen White (Dee Wallace) plagued by a stalkerto the point where she comes close to a nervous breakdown. Her therapist Dr George Waggner (Patrick Mcnee suggest she and her husbandtake a vacation to a secluded resort 'A colony' to recharge her batteries...The colony has a collection of very strange people of which her therapist will proveto be a part of.With night-time howling evident from the outset, think I myself would have jumpedinto the car and driven home ?But no, Karen will investigate....her hubby will soon fall foul to the colony's culture.A nostalgic glance back.Sadly though some aspects looked pretty sharp the overall visual standard was wellshort of 4k standard in my opinion.

Horror Classic
The Howling is a horror classic and it has been given the restoration it deserves. The extras are good, on the single disc, but not exhaustive. Worth adding to your collection if you require an upgrade.

4K Review - BRAVO!
While the new packaging and booklet for the collector's edition is lovely (and I only ordered this version because I didn't want to wait for the stand alone version), the real selling point in this set is the new transfer of the film - as you might hope - is absolutely stunning. It really is the best this film has ever looked. The HDR/Dolby Vision grading provides a colour pallet which brings a new richness, depth, brightness and contrast which pop - but still remain realistic. There's very little crushing in the shadows and blacks look truly black. Grain is still present and in very few scenes does this become excessive - and certainly not out of kilter with any of the previous releases. I found myself noticing new textures and details in most scenes. As with the picture, the soundtrack is crisp and clear. This really is the definitive release of the film, and puts even the previous and already impressive BluRay release to shame! Bravo to all those involved because this breathes a whole new life in to one of the best werewolf movies ever made.

Normal bluray restoration is great (not 4k)
Normal bluray restoration is great (not 4k). I couldn't find any info about the bluray, but the picture is superb, not grainy at all
