Got Away with No Sunscreen (Fitzpatrick 4)
Having had no time in the sun for about a year, I sought protection before heading to Mexico this past February so I could not worry about sunscreen so much. Having not heard of sunscreen pills, I read studies on the active ingredient for efficacy as well as safety. I was excited to try these. (I use organic, reef-safe, non-nano sunscreen so it's thick and difficult to put on.) I *am* a Fitzpatrick IV tone.Short Story: They worked and I didn't *need* sunscreen. (This definitely is not an endorsement to not wear sunscreen; if you're of a lighter complexion and especially if you burn easily or haven't seen sun exposure in a while, I'd suggest using the pills as reinforcement as opposed to how I used them which was a 'just in case.') MY partner who is a Fitz 2, I started feeding him the AM/PM pills three days beforehand, too. He didn't burn (DID wear sunscreen SPF30) until our 5th day but, in that case, he'd gone bike riding all day long in the Mexican sun and sweated off any sunscreen he'd applied early on. Normally, he would have reddened, blistered, and been miserable. But not this time. He was just of a 'burnished' shade, which was only mildly uncomfortable for him.Longer Story: Upon taking one pill AM and one PM three days before my trip (and then continuing most of vacation), I actually didn't wear sunscreen for the first couple days on the beach (though some mild cloud coverage the first day with the second day, my nervousness of pill-testing had me half-under the shade of a palm tree half the time, where, usually, I'd STILL tan). What was maddening is that I'd gotten NO kind of darkening. (Yet I'd read reviews in which people had complained they'd burned. Not even close to my case, maybe they're Fitz 1's or 2's and should have used sunscreen in tandem?)By the third day, going to spend the entire day on the beach (Akumal), I purposefully did not take the previous PM or the current AM pill AND didn't put SPF15 on until after maybe 3 hours (10am - 1pm) on the beach (UV index 11); I tanned nicely (finally) even though I should have started the sunscreen a little earlier OR should have taken a Solaricare that AM.Finally. I can hardly believe how well these work. I've ordered more in which I will make part of my daily regiment. [Have also ordered the active ingredient in (wholesale bulk from another country) in order to mix into my lotions for overall skincare.

The same ingredient (Polypodium leucotomos) and strength as Heliocare, but without the added food dye. This is the product I was waiting for. My fair skin can handle more sun when I take Solarcare, but it is not a substitute for sun block. Most effective if taken 1/2 hour before sun exposure. For me it has no negative side effects.

My dermatologist told me the main ingredient in this formula would help sun damage and help prevent further damage. I'm very hopeful, but I think it's too soon to tell if it's working or not.

I have been taking 1 capsule daily for about 45 days and I have not experienced as much sun burn or irritation from the sun when doing outdoor work for 2-3 hours per day. I am not convinced that it helps. But, it definitely does not hurt and I have experience zero side effects. I will purchase again and continue to use throughout the summer, Then I may stop and see if there is any difference.

Worthless
As near as I can tell, these supplements are worthless.
