Great coverage, long lasting
This is a great semipermanent color that colors evenly and lasts great on my darker hair, but does fade a little faster from the grey areas (but still much better than others I have tried).

<3 Ion dyes
Its the perfect shade of black that makes it look natural. Super easy to use, and lasts as long as the box says it will. Haven't noticed it staining my pillows or anything like other semi perm dyes.

Not a very deep black, washes out fast
If you're a goth, this isn't likely to be what you want. On my dark brown hair it came out a sort of natural deep brown-black...my own hair color. Oops. That isn't why it lost a star for me though. Even for a semi-permanent color, this washes out pretty quickly. After about 3 washes it looks pretty much gone, at least on brown hair.

Magic Dye
This was my first time using this stuff and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to apply. It took no time for the color to take to my dark brown ear length hair. I still have so much left over.

Good in-between-er
I love this product for when I need a quick touch up around my edges. It does rub off though if you hair gets damp for whatever reason. I don’t like that but I put up with it.

Not red
I have used Ion's Red in the past and decided to try Hot Red because I figured it would be a brighter color. As soon as I squeezed the product out, I was confused. It was dark, almost brown. I decided to use it anyway and put it on the bottom half of my hair, which had been lightened previously. When I washed the dye out, I was pissed. My previously red hair was now darker, not redder. I don't know what color I was given, but it wasn't red.

not black enough for goths
I was trying to find an alternative to Arctic Fox's shade Transylvania, because that product has good color payoff and staying power but a greenish overtone I don't like. I was looking for something that was JUST BLACK with no overtone, or maybe just a purplish or bluish overtone.Coming out of the tube it was dark brown, and after processing 1 hr+ covered, at room temp, on virgin med. brown roots (e.g. nonporous hair), the result was "#1B"-like dark brown. I usually process for at least an hour because I feel like most semi-perm dyes are meant to be used on processed hair, and mine is already coarse, so that's two strikes against color uptake. The color result on the hair was comparable to the smear color of the product. So perhaps, maybe, possibly this is "black" enough for normies who want it to look natural, like an off-black, but if you want your hair LITERALLY F-ING GOTHIC BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK #1 and want to use a semipermanent dye, this ain't it chief. It technically covered my greys, but they're medium brown now.The directions don't specify covered vs. not covered. All it says is do so at room temp. The only pro was that the nozzle and consistency made it easier/less messy to apply vs a tint brush. It was easy to rinse out and didn't make a huge mess.
