Useful and a Keeper
So far as I know, this is a definitive work on a true American art form. Beautifully laid out and, often used as a reference source. Importantly, this great work focuses on the unique, handmade Native American art form and is NOT so much a focus on the more modern design copies and innovations fashioned with pinpoint laser precision and computerized drafting. Many of these ties were hand hammered on simple anvils and stoked fires. Much of the tooling was done by hand and, much of the turquoise and coral used in these ties is no longer available. Many mines have been closed, some have played out and, many are producing much lower grade turquoise. The Mediterranean coral is nearly extinct. Paging through this book shows you โOne of a Kindโ pieces of Native American artistry.

Excellent Book
This book tells you what you need to know about bolos; their history, how to date them and how to recognize important aspects of them. It's well illustrated and a valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in the history of Native American jewelry. According to the authors it didn't start with Native Americans at all. There are some inaccuracies, in this, because Native Americans were making bolos in the 1940s, at least! Still, there's a tremendous amount of great information and it's well illustrated.

Excellent Book, Original Research
By delving into the history and origin of bolo ties made by American Indian silversmiths, Pardue and Sandfield also reveal a truth of Indian silversmithing - that the artists adapt their skills to whatever form or function their customers require. Lovely and plentiful photographs portray the magnificent artistry that evolved from simple scarf slides. Excellent original research with fine examples of vintage bolos to illustrate the text make this a welcome addition to the knowledge of American Indian jewelry.
