Himalayan salt blocks – also known as Himalayan salt plates – are an exciting way of seasoning and serving food. The dusky pink Himalayan rock can be slowly heated or chilled to extreme temperatures. The tight crystal lattice in the Himalayan salt block means that it holds its temperature for long periods of time – to the extent that the salt block can be used to fry fish, or keep ice cream chilled. Most excitingly, the Himalayan salt block is rich in mineral salt, which flavours – or even cures – the food served on the salt plate. Try presenting slivers of sashimi on the salt plate, and watch it start to cure at the table. Another option is to slowly heat the salt block in the oven, and use it to fry scallops, or even an egg in front of guests. The salt block is also great when chilled in the freezer, and used to present ice cream – coffee, chocolate and caramel flavours work particularly well with the block’s saltiness. geat gift

Pretty cool. Bought for my dad
Pretty cool. Bought for my dad. We've made scallops and shrimp and salmon on it. Salmon skin stuck to it, but a drill with a Grinder piece cleans this up easily. Scallops and shrimp were DELICIOUS. Use salt-free seasoning since this imparts a lot of saltiness on the food. Also I reccomend hearing the salt block on the stove before using on the grill to get it to temp. It is slightly hard to clean if it gets very dirty,,, recommend using a drill with a grinding piece on it. Enjoy. Cool gift for my dad he likes it

Size matters.
I bought this as a gift. Please note the size before you order. I just looked at the pictures and it appeared that you can cook two steaks on it, as well as three skewers of vegetables. I think one steak will fit, but those in the pictures were very small. This tile is 10 inches by 6 inches. I expected probably half again as big. Totally my fault for not paying attention to the clearly advertised size, but the pictures are also misleading. I'm considering whether or not to return it.

Only used it once so far to do some Ribeye. Did notice that on the Grill, small shards of salt did prick my body from time to time.... wearing shorts and tank top. Just be aware that the salt may shard off . Not sure why

Try it.
It's cheap. Try it out.Preheat for an hour or so and it keeps the heat well, I use it as a serving "platter"Suggestions: shrimp, scallops, fajitas, French fries, anything fried, steak, chicken breast, pork chops etc.The addition of sodium is minimal when you do this, don't let it deter you.I haven't really tried "cooking" on it per se, just as a serving platter from 300-450 degrees. It keeps the heat for several hours. No joke.

Oops!
Had a great experience when our friend cooked on his salt block...we decided to get one. Cooked on it tonight with a broiler pan underneath the block. Slowly brought up temp and it shattered my flattop stove. Now I need a new stove.

High Quality
I bought this as a gift for my mother. She really likes it. It has a great weight to it and it seems like a good quality product for the price. I'm not sure she has used it yet though as shes nervous about cracking it since you need to slowly heat it up to prevent any cracking occurring.

When grilling salmon, skin stuck to salt tile and had to be painstakingly removed. As a result salmon did not pick up as much salt as needed from tile.

Great for cooking on— makes really yummy salmon and steaks and veggies so far. Easy to clean by just rinsing off and lightly scrubbing. Takes a while to heat up to proper temperature is the only thing to be aware of before you start cooking a meal so plan accordingly.
